Intro: It's interesting reading back in one's journal... the things you learned that shape who you are today. I've decided to re-type some of my old hand-written journal entries. Enjoy!
You know how I said that I like Russell Hancock? I still do. Greenway High had their Christmas dance this past Friday. It was the 5th dance that I've been to. I went with Tasha, one of my best friends. It cost us $6 a piece to get in. Anyway, Tasha had asked the guy that she likes out (the dance was a Sadie Hawkins Dance-- girls ask guys). Tasha's guy said yes that he'd go with her. He even said that he'd buy the tickets. Tasha had spent weeks coming up with the courge to ask out this guy, and I was thinking about calling up Russ, the guy I like, and asking him. I didn't have any time with basketball and all. (Actually I either was too chicken or I would remember to call and ask him at the most inopportune times... like 9:00 at night, or when I'm at basketball practice, or before I go to basketball. He's a wrestler so I couldn't catch him after school.)
So the night of the dance Tasha calls up, "Did you ask him? Are you going?" I'd totally forgotten to ask my parents if I could go because I was gone all day Friday and didn't wake up on Saturday 'till 1:00pm on account that I'd been playing basketball in Mingus and didn't get home 'till midnight. Okay. Okay, so mom and dad come home and I can go so I hurry up and get ready because it was almost time to go. I get dropped off at Tasha's. We get driven to the dance by her mom. We get there and Tasha's guy is a no show (Present Day Comment: Funny the future Miss Arizona USA gets stood up... people from HS were such asses) so we pay and get in. Luckilly Tasha had brought extra money in case he didn't show.
She's depressed. I'm feeling sad for her. Then, the guy I like, Russell, Walks in with Justin Echols. They both have dates. Oh my gosh! My blood starts pumping so fast. I point out his presence to Tasha. She says that I should ask him to dance a SLOW dance. I'm thinking "are you crazy he has a date with him!" She's not kidding.
So Russ, Justin, and their dates go walking around. I start getting in one of those "I don't care what people think about my dancing" moods. I can't dance worth a dime. I manage to get Tasha to dance a few songs with me. All the while I'm trying to get her to have some fun. You know how dances are-- no one wants to dance because they'll look stupid.
Tasha's date is still a no show, so to cheer her up I make a deal with her. "If your guy doesn't show up by 10:00, I'll ask Russell to dance the first slow dance after 10:00." Her guy is a no show. So I spend 15 minutes waiting for a slow dance to come on. I walk up to Russell and ask, "Russ, if it's okay with your date, would you like to dance?" He says yes. I dance with him. All I talked about was school and basketball. Stupid. Gosh. Oh, well.
Tasha teased me the rest of the night about him having his arms around me. I was still in shock. I stayed home today. Tasha said she spread the word about me dancing with the guy I like. Oh, well. I could care less who knows who I like. Well, that's my story.
Yes! I still like guys. Especially Russell Hancock!
