This Saturday marks the 1 year anniversary of the unobservant, neglectful woman who almost ran over Jordan and DID run over his motorbike to the point of bending the frame. Jordan got a call from the lawyer today and, without going to court, it looks like we're settling for $17589.08. Up to $11k of that will go to pay the medical leins the hospital has out on us. Another chunk of that will go to pay for the legal services. May I just say that it was TOTALLY worth not having to haggle the other insurance company, which even our lawyer's office admits was/is a total PAIN.
The lawyer is going to work with the hospital in an attempt to reduce the amount we owe them... which is ridiculous since we do have medical insurance, but I guess insurance doesn't pay for accident related medical if another party is responsible. The lawyer is hoping to break that number into thirds-- making our effective ordeal worth approximately $5800 at a maximum and $2500 on a low end, depending on the final medical numbers. $5800 would actually be close to balancing out our losses. $2500... not so much. That's not even what we lost out of pocket while Jordan was out of work. So... we'll see.
We did get $7k from our insurance for the motorbike a really, really long time ago-- that covered what we owed on that loan. Thank GOODNESS that got taken care of quickly. We had about 4 months of "ghost" payments on a motorbike we didn't have anymore. That was annoying. I don't know what we'd do now with a $200/mo payment and my reduced work hours!
I'm just glad that things are FINALLY getting settled. It's been quite the long ordeal.
