The Weekend That Was Too Long

May 27, 2009 18:18

I love holiday weekends as much as the next person, but when I run out of things I want to do on the weekend and I'd rather go back to filing... it's too long. That's not saying I didn't have a fun weekend. I just didn't feel quite well most of the weekend.

Friday it rained. Again. I truly love the rain. Especially when a pigeon decides to land on the power transformer behind my building at work. Instant fried pigeon. Instant day off. (Fridays are our half-days... and by the time the power company came out to fix the pigeon problem, it would have been "hometime" anyway.)

To be honest, I cannot remember what I did Friday. I can barely remember Saturday... I don't know if it's early onset Alzheimer's or the ripping headache I've had for a week now. The rain, as much as I love it, brought in a low pressure system. Teaming up with my allergies they gave me the equivalent of what it feels like to take a PR-24 to the head. My throat swelled up. My nose started to run. My lungs started to ache... and, of course, the drainage blocked my sinuses. Since the rain, my head has cleared... mostly. My ears are still throbbing. I don't have a fever, but the pressure in my ears makes them hurt so bad Jordan can't even brush my ear... and he's constantly rough-housing me. On the plus side... I have but to press his scabby arm in retaliation as we both howl in pain.

Some of my family came to visit us on Saturday. I was excited to see my mom, dad and sister. We took them out to our dirt lot... where eventually we hope a house will stand. Then, we walked through the model home telling them what things we had or didn't have. After going on house watch, we ate some Mexican food at "Mama Casa's" (which isn't the real name of the place) and then to the theater to watch Batman battle Terminators while looking for Mr. Checkov in "Terminator Salvation".

As far as movies go... it was decent. It was far better than the third Terminator flick. It couldn't hold a candle to the first two, though. The movie was... let's say... quite good excepting the cliche ending. It was the ending that ruined it for me.

Sunday, Jordan and I had the misfortune of going to church. Being as Jordan and I teach a primary class (kids 10 turning 11), we can't last-minute decide to skip church when we have other things we want to do. This means no more going to visit my folks on the weekends, which I miss. It also means no staying home when we have ripping sinus headaches and feel like crap. Finding substitutes is an option, but it's the finding someone who is willing to teach the class that's rough... even so, our reasons for choosing not to opt out also included us not wanting to pawn off "sharing time" (another hour, but with all the older kids) on a substitute. Fortunately, I had made a giant word search to cover that...

After brainwashing the minds of young children with Mormon ideas and beliefs on the Holy Ghost... we came home and Jordan started preparing dinner. Dinner was delicious-- grilled chicken, mashed potatos and veggies. My folks came over about an hour after church for dinner and games. We played Boggle, Pirate's Dice and talked.

Monday morning, my family came back for breakfast (also a la Jordan). Then we said our goodbyes. (The weather apparently got to their allergies as well.)... and I was left with half a day to putter around. I hadn't planned on puttering.... so I went and read and did laundry. Laundry needed to be done... and I was looking forward to starting the book I'd won off Goodreads.

As long as the weekend was, and as much as I thought I wanted to file, I'm still looking forward to this Friday.
