My old college roommate (of 4 years) just had her baby-- Eliana Esther. She was born August 20, 2008 at 10:04pm and was 20 inches long and 7lbs, 14oz. (
Photo of Jessica and Eliana ... I hope Jessica doesn't kill me if this is a bad photo! I thought it was a good one!)
I'm a little excited. Granted, I won't see the kid grow up or anything. Shoot, I may not even see Jessica and Matt for years and years... but it's kinda fun to know I'll be "Aunt Katie". I'm already thinking of the plethora of stories Jessica will tell the kid when she asks about her college adventures. I'd also like to think of a nickname for the Jessica-Matt Clan if they have more... I'm actually kinda anticipating another real nephew (as opposed to a "real" nephew) too.
My SIL, Moriah, is due mid-September. Zander will be the kid's name. I wish I could say I'm looking forward to holding the kid, but let's not kid ourselves here... I'm really looking forward to seeing how Moriah and Ty raise the little guy. I'm even more interested in seeing how the Hellions will handle the arrival of their little cousin at Sunday night dinners. I can't wait to see how Josh and Lydia take things. Heh. (I'm evil, I know.)
My FIL scares me sometimes... you know his nerves have been smoothed over by all that anti-baby stuff I did to curb the "when are you having kids" questions after Jordan and I got married-- it's that same stuff that made Josh and Lydia think I completely loathe all children-- and the reassurance that we'd probably eventually spawn, but you know my FIL still hopes. Sunday, Moriah was talking about some of the things she hates about this latter part of being pregnant... the back pain, which sucks for me because I messed my back up royally when I was 22-ish... not being able to sleep, which really sucks because if I get less than 8 hours a night I'm cranky-pants... etc... etc... "Thank goodness I'm half-broke," I exclaimed in reply only to be rebutted with an accurate repeal of, "It's the other half that will get you..."
Ah, crap...
