This weekend, I was almost eaten by a 'gator...
Okay, not really... but I did make an unflattering face while I stuck my leg in the 'gator exhibit at the
International Wildlife Museum. Don't worry, I checked the sign first and it said I could touch the gator gently (my leg isn't resting on the teeth). I also asked if we could take photos inside the museum. Though, there was this scary desert-at-night-scene and I took a flash picture and it sounded like I set off a some alarm or some kinda animal didn't like it and was shrieking very loudly. I jumped about 3-feet in the air and we decided not to take any more photos in that area of the museum.
The special occasion this weekend was a visit from my sister, Amy, which also coincided with the "I passed my test celebration dinner".
It was an auspicious weekend. Friday, I worked 'till noon o'clock. Jordan went in to work shortly after noon o'clock. Amy and I went to eat Taco Bell for lunch and took the other half of my Big Box Meal to Jordan at work, where we got the dime tour of the University of Arizona Mirror Lab (where they make giant telescope mirrors). We went in what I call "the echo-y tunnel"... which is about 3-meters in diameter, 400-feet long, orange, and under ground. Whispering in the tunnel is amplified and fired back to you at normal voice levels, and it's so fun to walk through the tunnel because you can hear every swish of your clothes. When we finished playing in the tunnel, we hiked up to the top of the tower and got a really good view of the University campus.
After that, Amy wanted to visit Moriah, Jordan's sister, at her work. We stopped by and Moriah had a 3pm cancellation, so she fit Amy into her schedule and dyed her hair for free. Amy was ecstatic-- she has job interviews this week, so the timing was perfect. We got Moriah some Cold Stone Ice-Cream to pay her back for fitting in Amy's hair.
The rest of Friday panned out with a trip to Costco, a little TV, and "scrapbooking" with Amy. After Jordan got off of work, we went to see "The Hulk"... which was oodles better than the one they made in the early 2000's.
Saturday started with an IHOP adventure. I was surprised that at 11am on a Saturday the place wasn't busier. After that, I believe we went to Home Depot to buy a leaf blower. I thought they were on sale for Father's Day, but they weren't... but we need one, so we bought one anyway. Then, it was the adventure to the International Wildlife Museum, where they have taxidermic animals of all sorts. I got made fun of in Spanish by some really mature Mexicans who were laughing because I was laying on the floor trying to get a better angle of this mountain goat exhibit that looks like a mountain. I might only speak broken Spanish (I call it Spanglish), but I know enough to know approximately what they were saying... if anything, the pointing and laughing was also a dead give-away. I should have asked if they knew the meaning of subtlety. Now I'm tempted to buy that Rosetta Stone software the next time I see it at CostCo so I can learn more Spanish so I can rebuke the Spanish speaking citizens in their "secret language". I should also learn Polish, so I can have a secret language to make fun of them to their face too... and then they wonder why English speaking people don't like them much... (I'm kidding, of course, but the thought has crossed my mind.)
After the museum, we went bowling... I'm surprised I broke 100 in my game because we had to dodge little kids from the birthday party on the lanes next to us as they ran in front of us as we bowled. Jordan bowled 5-games, I bowled 2, and Amy only bowled one. When we finished, we went to Firebird's Rocky Mountain Grill for dinner. I got the Aspen Sirloin with 'tatos (again)... It was juicy and delicious despite being a little charred on the outside. We also got some chocolate mousse for later, but it's still in the 'fridge, untouched because we have to drive by Dairy Queen on the way home. That was a scary experience. I've never seen that place so busy... and so... diverse. There was a goth, an emo, some yellow conspiracy members (inside joke), a gaggle of teenage girls in "hooker boots", and several flamboyant men. I feared for my sanity, and as soon as we got our ice-cream we booked it out of there!
At some point Saturday night, we made 3-trips to Target where we bought another wii-mote and "Boom Blox", which we spent the remainder of the evening gleefully playing.
Sunday was a late morning. Amy left shortly after playing "Boom Blox", after we ate, and after we loaded up her car. On her way home, she was at the front of a 4-car accident. Fortunately, the only damage to her vehicle was a few scratches... this is where I usually go into a rant about idiot drivers in Tucson, but this is getting long so I'll spare you. I stayed home from church not wanting to combat loud noises from kids all day. In 3- hours, I caught up on the house work and got to play a little "Boom Blox". Then, it was off to my in-law's for dinner... which is a whole other adventure I hope to chronicle later today.
