Saturday mornings before noon, movies here are $5! So my 'rents, Jordan, and I went to see the new "Speed Racer" movie that just came out this weekend. It was a great movie. Very kid friendly, but very bright colours and some of the races were dizzying. As the cars spun out of control, the hyper-coloured background would spin and you felt like you were in the car spinning too. The movie was exciting and the colours were wild! Some parts were predictable... even if they tried to throw a wrench in the predictability. But, overall, I'd like to own it.
If you've ever seen "The Moulin Rouge" movie, the colours and camera shots are reminiscent of that film. Fast cut-scenes... bright colours... it's rough seeing it your first time and keeping your head on straight. I imagine that I'll like the film even more if I see it subsequent times.
After the movie, we went to McDonald's where I think I scared my dad talking about my aversion to having kids due, in part, to baby overload and also due to poor parenting of others... and then we went to WalMart, where I'm ashamed to say we bought a rather large handful of DVD's from their $5 movie bin. So much for my long boycott stretch. We're adding Varsity Blues, Dare Devil, Legends of the Fall, Cutthroat Island, A Knight's Tale, and Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Then Jordan and I went to Fry's Electronics and I splurged $200 on a Medium Wacom Bamboo Fun, which I've been dying to buy since Christmas. The cheapest I've been able to find them is $180 on buy.com, but they were in-stock at Fry's and rather than wait for shipping... we splurged. I can't wait to be able to draw things electronically now! Whee!!!
We also splurged on a new video card for Jordan's computer. He thinks his video card is yucky and that's why his monitor frequently goes red. If that's it, great. If not... we'll replace the antique Voodoo I card in our guest computer... or the GeForce 5200Fx that's in my computer. Either way, it won't go wasted if that's not the problem. Then Hannibal was only $5... and Jordan wanted the Donald Duck Collection Volume 3. And now... my credit card, which I just paid off is back up to $400. Yucky. Though we should be getting our tax rebate on Monday.
The rest of the day was very lazy... relaxing and fun.
