Two words for Turkey this year: Yum Yum. I guess it's also just one word, twice... but it was yummy none-the-less... no matter how many times you repeat it.
This weekend with my family was fantastic. It started out a little rough. I was all cranky-pants and PM-essy. I skipped home an hour early to do some last minute trip preparations-- I didn't want to forget anything important like wedding fake-cake, wedding gifts or Christmas presents (since we prolly won't be back in Phoenix 'till next year). Jordan got home at 7pm, which was exciting because we were able to leave for Phoenix at 8pm Wed night instead of 10 or 11pm. Yay!
The drive up was nice. I really don't mind that drive since I'm not allowed (per myself because I have a lead) to drive long-distance since getting my speeding ticket. One year to go on that oath... It also helps we went the back route through Florence. No traffic!... and all the accidents were on the US60 going towards Tucson. Yay! It was nice waking up Turkey Day and not having to face stupid amounts of traffic.
Turkey-Day was lovely. We got up around 9am (I got to sleep in!)... my sister came over first, then my brother and his family. We ate around noon-ish... and, once again, I say the turkey was nummy. I ate more than I should have, which is almost requisite of Thanksgiving... and lay on the couch for a non-nap-nap. Cameron (my brother's son) came up to me, hand poised to throw a ball, saying "catch!"... to which Aunt Katie (me) replied, "Oh, no... no catch!"... and he said "Okay" and walked away leaving me to pick my jaw up off the floor, where it landed at some point during my moment of astonishment. I think I've spent too much time around the Hellions and I've forgotten that kids can actually LISTEN to adults. I'd take 5-days with Cameron over 5-minutes with the Hellions ANY DAY of the week!
Friday, we did hit the sales. Jordan, my mom, and I went to the morning sales at Fry's Electronics and Target. We all got what we wanted to get at both stores, which was really cool. Jordan and I lucked out. We were buying his dad an 8G flash drive... but the shelf was devoid of them. As we were about to leave, an employee pulled a WHOLE BOX down from the shelf! Haha! Victory! This happened again at Target with the digital video recorder we got Ty... they were locked and all these women had "claimed them" but an employee brought out a whole box later (and they still had some Saturday night when we went back to Target.)
After those sales, we got Jack-in-the-Box for Breakfast, and went home and back to bed. Jordan and I went out shopping again after the sales had died down. You wouldn't believe the difference a few hours makes. The stores were considerably less-crowded. This was only my second year getting up early to shop Black Friday... I value my sleep too much. Though, I would say it was worth getting up early again this year.
I just can't believe I spent all day Friday shopping-- I hate shopping. I hate spending money, but we spent wwaaaaay too much. Ah, well.
Friday evening, we watched Die Hard and Die Harder. Jordan and I also watched The Holiday. I wrapped presents and tried to finish the wedding pumpkin pattern-- so I could carve the pumpkin I didn't have time to carve for Halloween. Saturday morning, I finished carving the pumpkin, showered... and Jordan and I took the Fake Cake over to the Mesa Temple for Opal's wedding.
It was a nice wedding. It was especially good seeing all us old Duplex Roommates together again. Jordan was a little... brash... throwing double entendre and vulgarities out left and right. It was a little over-the-top, but you could tell he's getting used to being around my friends. He was quite silly.
After the wedding, we did a little more last-minute shopping-- picking up a few things that we wanted earlier that weren't "a must", came home, and watched "Frequency" 'till 2 am.
Sunday, we slept 'till 11am! Packed everything up... and drove out to visit my brother on the way home and drop off his birthday present. It's really fun seeing my nephew. He knows who "Aunt Kay-ee" and "Uncle Joran" are... and it's really fun to watch him count. He has super hand-eye coordination. He really is a cute kid. I was mostly impressed with how well behaved he is!
The drive back home was uneventful... we stopped off at Jordan's 'rent's place to drop off the fake cake... where we got talking about family history for an hour. Then, I got home to my kitties. Unpacked. Went to bed.
On an aside... my mom's cats are doing well. Cracker is recovering from his surgery. He has a bone disorder... and had to have surgery to remove the ball joint off his back legs-- because it'd keep breaking off otherwise. They cracked him open, pulled that piece out and sawed/sanded the kitty femur down so it'll make a good joint. Until it heals, the poor cat has 2 broken legs. Scar tissue is supposed to hold the legs in place later... but it's better than having your legs break all the time.
Homie, mom's other cat is as fluffy as ever. He's still a bundle of trouble too.
Then there's the feral cats that live in the back yard. We saw "Momma Cat" (who I like to call Bastet) and "Sister"... Buster, on the other hand, was all over the place. That cat is an outdoor cat who wants in. He's so cuddly and people-friendly too.
