Back when I still had my '84 'vette (that's Chevette NOT Corvette)... back when I lived in the Duplex with Opal and Michele... my car battery died.
It wasn't that big of a deal then either-- I more or less stayed at home when I was in college because I had relatively no money. So when I went to run some errands in my car and it didn't start, I just went back inside and asked one of my roommates when they had time to take me to an auto part store to buy a new battery.
I learned a lot of things that week (yes, it took about a week to fix my battery)... I learned that my 'vette had a unique top/side loading battery and it had a side connector. So I had to take the top-loading battery I first bought back to the store.
I also learned that guys are really stupid when it comes to cars. What I mean is they don't like to admit that they don't know Jack-Diddly about changing a car battery. I asked Michele's b/f at the time if he knew how to change a car battery. He claimed he did... later, he said "I've seen it done a couple times." *eye roll*
... so when I bought a top and side loading battery that was a little too large for the "battery area" (technical car term there... ), Skippy attached the negative then the positive (which is the wrong order) AND he created a circuit VIA my chassis... White smoke poured from my hood. Fortunately, Michele's b/f unhooked it before it did any serious damage. I did have to replace a couple cables that got fried and, of course, my ground wire which MELTED.
I called my 'rents and told them the situation. They came down to visit the very next weekend and my dad helped me restore the melted wires AND, he went with me for my 3rd or 4th time purchasing a new car battery. We installed it and everything was up and running after that.
I'm thinking of this now because I'm still bothered by Jordan saying "If we charge it up, you'll be fine" and his avoiding my "What happens when I get stranded" question. Car batteries in Arizona don't usually last more than 3 years (which is nice since you usually only have to buy the first one-- the rest are usually covered by the warranty).
I bought my car Thanksgiving weekend 2004, so it's been nearly 3 years... the battery is due to croak. Older batteries don't hold charge well... AND, well... if anything, I can take it in to an Automotive store and have them check it just to be certain (which is what my poopy husband should have helped me do in the first place).
Tonight, my FIL is going to help me get this straightened out, so I don't have to worry about the car anymore!
