FE Test (Tomorrow!) and Halloween

Oct 26, 2007 16:02

Tomorrow morning at 7am, I'll be downtown crammed in a room of 200 masochists taking (for the 4th time... *dies*) an 8 hour "math" test to get my engineering certification. Those coveted letters "EIT" at the end of my name will make me... less stressed come April or October of next year. Hah!

I took today off of work to study and got off to a "wonderful" start because I woke up with a migraine. One Excedrin and an hour of "Holmes on Homes" (my new favourite TV show next to "Supernatural") later, I was ready to go. I started off finishing probability. I finally "get" it. Once you learn the tricks, it's EASY. From there, I did some calculus-- and I was amazed at how much of that I remembered. Then I did some differential equations... after a little review, that came back to me too. I still need to review economics... and I'd better do some more physics, statics, mechanics, fluids, and look over soils. I've already done a bit of studying for those over the past couple weeks, but a quick look-see and I should be set. I'm not worried about ethics or algebra. I should probably look over materials and construction management and surveying again. Bleh.

The more times I take this test, the more times I study for this test, and the more problems I do... more of what I "learned" in college comes back to me. It's frustrating that I had such a crap 5 years of college and couldn't afford to take the test after graduating. I didn't even WANT to do engineering after I finished school, but I got my cool job and I really enjoy what I do... and that makes me want to pass this test.

I do admit that I didn't study as much or as dilligently as I did last time. I also admit I could have studied more... as things are now, I'm really going to have to cram the rest of my Halloween preparations into 3 days. Haha. Fun. I still have to finish sewing my costume-- I just have to start the pants, put elastic in the shirt, and grommits in the waist cincher. I'll probably have to sew Jordan's costume too-- he's such a slacker, though I think he wasn't working on his costume so I would study. I found shoes on Tuesday... Jordan needs to make his shoes. I also need to make the magic carpet out of fabric scraps-- I already have a $2 black mat I got at Big Lots. I also have 2 pumpkins to carve... one with the Taj Mahal and the other with The Hermit Tarot Card pattern I designed... that I'm going to try to carve half traditional and half 3D. I hope it turns out well.

I already have my goodies bagged up-- I took care of that earlier this month (THANK GOODNESS). That took FOREVER. I have about 130 bags for girls, boys, and teens. In the little kid bags I have 4-mini-chocolate-bars, a glider, a non-Halloween temp tattoo (so they can wear it the day after Halloween and not look retarded), 1 oz of play-doh, a bat ring, stickers, a pencil, and a bouncy eyeball (boys) or 2 bracelets (girls). For teens (or small kids who come late in the evening), I have 1 full-sized candybar, stickers, a bat ring, and play-doh.

Yes, I'm giving stuff out to teens. Our house rule is "If you're dressed up, you get stuff." If they're not dressed up... well, we have +150 mini candy bars and +30 full-sized candy bars which we can dole out at our discretion. I also have some leftover play-doh... so we might hand that out. I don't know if we have enough candy. I think we'll be alright, though. If not... well... maybe I can swing by costco to get some candybars.

... and, of course, I can't forget about the glow-bracelets! We'll be passing those out as well. So... I might take time off after work to help set up and snap and connect those glow bracelets. We'll see.

Tomorrow is going to suck. Opal (one of my old, cool roommates) is having her bridal shower tomorrow RIGHT AFTER MY TEST! Ahhh! I bought and wrapped her gift last Friday because I knew if I didn't do it then I'd be all stressed out today. I want to stay and get photos, but I don't know how awake I'll be. I usually crash after my test. *le dies*

Bleh!

Next month should be slightly less stressful. I only have 2 weddings to go to and Thanksgiving with my family. (Huzzah!) I'm also planning on catching up on all the housework I've let go neglected due to my frazzled-ness (Jordan's done his share... but he still gets distracted and whines, so I've given up on getting him to do more than the bare minimum of housework). I'm going to also catch up on all the stuff I've been wanting to do instead of study... which is amusing. So... this was a really long study break. I need to get back to work!

Fourth time is the charm, right? Ha!

fe, halloween
