Company's 20th Anniversary

Mar 19, 2007 08:33

If the measure of a good company party is how many minutes you've spent laughing, then our Friday party was a hit. I think every speaker had something fun to say. Every employee had their various stories and quirks. I learned how the company got started and how it's grown over the years. It was really neat.

I also spoke with Chuck, the creator/owner/President of the company, afterwards. He thanked me for my efforts and help organizing the party. I thanked him for the fun place to work and told him how cool it was to hear stories about how he got down on the floor to hook up new employee computers in the pre-IT guy days. I've even seen Chuck go in the women's bathroom with a toilet plunger to get it working right. He said (and I love this because I used to say this when I was night management at U-Mart), "I don't expect anyone to do something I wouldn't do."

He's a very down-to-Earth guy. He's hired down-to-Earth people... so needless to say, we have a very fun and relaxed business atmosphere. Employees care about eachother... the higher-ups care about the peons... the peons don't feel like peons either.

The event flowed so smoothly. We had lunch and then Chuck spoke... then a few of the higher-ups in our different offices spoke. David Hook, my old boss who moved to Flagstaff to head the whole office up there made jokes about U of A's basketball team sucking, pulled out a Purdue construction hat, put it on, and yelled, "Go Boilermakers!" (He graduated from Purdue). Craig, my department head & senior vice-president of the company, compared our company's growth to the Ebola virus and told some different, funny stories. The video that the videographer put together for us was fun. It was long, but fun. There's talk that it'll get put up on our company website. I hope it does, so I can link to it so you can all be amused too.

This is a great place to work... and if anyone is looking for work in Arizona as an engineer in land development, transportation, hydrology, or water/wastewater... or a surveyor... or an accountant... ask me for a referral. Seriously. I love my job-- it's a fun place to work!

... and as a token of our company's fun, I give you McMesa!

Ricardo in hydrology went on vacation for 2 weeks. Ricardo hates McDonald's, so his department though it'd be fun to decorate his cubicle McD's style. They did awesome... they rinsed out sundae cups and used them as paperclip holders... made wallpaper and papered his desk. It was awesome... and fun!
