Smallville: An EPIC Journey

Sep 22, 2011 03:20

Okay. Okay okay okay.

I am, in a way beyond my capabilities, going to TRY and sum up the last month and a half for me.

Obviously I can't go season by season SO here's my squeeage.

The Actors/Characters

+++ Tom Welling is GORGEOUS. I mean, GUH OMG. Just...wow. God's gift. And I'm trying to go back to season 1 and see the cute geek roaming the halls of Smallville High and it's like I CAN'T. And it's gorgeously bittersweet. I mean, yes, I've had ten years of the show in a month and a half, but they all just grew up beautifully in front of my eyes. And Tom Welling was just AMAZINGLY perfect. Clark was just so static in his way of thinking but when he learned a lesson, it bloody STUCK. I knew he could do some serious acting when the red kryptonite first introduced itself, but I still have to say this much: you want proof that he's a good actor? Watch "Luthor." I know it's recent and therefore, stuck in my head, but THAT was absolute proof that the man can ACT. He was fucking SCARY. All the scenes with Christopher Reeve? Tears in my eyes. It was like a serious passing of the torch for me and I honestly think that when I think of Chris Reeve, Tom Welling will be standing in the background a la Nathan Fillion style. :)

+++ Lois was perfect from the START. I mean, I NEVER imagined LOIS being the comic relief, but Erica Durance is just made of win. Again, you just saw her GROW. (And maybe there's a big difference between seeing her grow in ten years or a month and a half but go with me on this.) She just became SUCH a woman/hero's wife. And I was seriously rooting for the two of them from the VERY beginning.

+++ On the other side, I fucking hate Lana. I have nothing against Kristen Kreuk, but I just fucking hate Lana. No, really. I just HATED her character. I swear every time she came on the screen, I picked up my phone and started playing a game. Oh, I listened, obviously, because important plot points pop up everywhere, but she was pathetic to me. MAYBE I was biased because, well...DUH heendsupwithLOIS, but part of me thinks not. The final scene between Lana and Clark gave about an 8% twinge of sympathy. I just never liked her character AT ALL. Well, that's a lie. I liked her with Lex, but not including the scenes of Clark moping over her BEING with Lex. She was just a weakness. I seriously barely paid attention to what happened with her and this random suit (?). But frankly, like I said on FB: Whatever. I'll Wiki it if it's important. (Never was.) And in my opinion, she went on for FAR too many seasons. Yeah, yeah, call me a hater. Lana creates glazing eyes. Whawhawha.

+++ Now. Chloe. OMG CHLOE. Allison Mack I want to marry you. Win win WIN-UH. When she wasn't in the credits for those few episodes of season 10, I FREAKED. With Chloe comes Clark. Period. Buuuuuut. Again with the growing, FOR REAL. And of course, I'm gonna say it: I shipped Chloe/Clark. Mainly because of the BFFs turned lovers/angst/she'srightinfrontofyouyamoron!!!!! chemistry. BUT. The conversation where you just KNEW Chloe loved Jimmy more closed that book for me. Literally. I could hear it snap shut. And it was okay. (And speaking of Jimmy, OMFGWHATTHEFRIG?!?!?! I STILL don't get how that was ok!!!) And and! I would just like to say that I SO shipped Chloe and Oliver WAAAAAAAAAAY before that happened. And when it did???? Ohhhhhh, my fangirlish heart. :D Chloe just effing rules. I wanna be Chloe when I grow up.

+++ Oliver. Justin Hartley, I remember those smoldering eyes in Passions. You belong in Smallville. :) If there was ever a co-hero to have, it was SO the Green Arrow. And as much as I loved seeing Ollie grow, I loved seeing him constantly go back to struggling with those demons.

+++ I am in love with Cassidy Freeman. I SWEAR. Tess's story was just WOW.

+++ Lex. You are just the bomb. Period. I SWORE up and down that I would be FURIOUS if they brought a clone back to be The Lex Luthor, but when I saw that it was LEX? I freaked the hell out. Poor Rusty has had to listen to my squeeage ALL NIGHT. :) I always wondered what it was exactly that made Lex turn evil, and it was SO fun to see that it wasn't always just ONE thing. It was all over. ANYONE under Lionel's tutelage would be hell on earth.

+++ Jonathan & Martha are just plain &hearts &hearts &hearts

+++ I loved Lionel. I know I shouldn't have, but GOD I loved him. I LOVED the hair. The hair that was different from his son's. I LOVED seeing all that awful manipulation and then turning over a new leaf as best he knew how. I swear he was just like Lex and he thought he was doing the right thing when he just never really was. GAH. John Glover &hearts

+++ Of all the other side heroes? I have a soft spot for Zatanna. I really do. She's just fun. And I loved AC until he turned all...FLIPPER. I WISH they'd had more Cyborg. "On a scale of one to Taye Diggs." WIN.

The Story

+++ Aaron told me that if I got through season one, I'd be hooked. I will admit, season one was TORTURE. But he was right. Still hate Lana though. :P

+++ Anything involving the Kawatchee caves? Yawn. And I'm Indian.

+++ KNEEL BEFORE ZOD! Nummy Callum. &hearts

+++ I can't even begin to think of my favorite squee moments. Chloe having a power (I wish they'd kept that somehow). Lex killing Daddy (WHOA). Jonathan (*wibbles* That was one of the few I knew was gonna happen from having the TV randomly tuned in a couple of years ago). Clark killing the baby and then the red kryptonite (both painful and turned on cuz DAY-UM Kal was hot). When Clark FINALLY told Lois (I had to go to bed after that one as it was three in the morning which was SO hard considering how elated I was :D). Chloe and Oliver (obviously). Jimmy (GOD, the poor dude had it SO hard). WATCHTOWER (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS). THE Clark Kent and his awkwardness (gimme a geek in glasses any day). And the best one, obviously: The first time Clark flew AND HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET THE RIGHTS TO THE THEME MUSIC OMFG?!?!?!?!?!?!?! *EPIC FANGIRL FLAIL*

+++ Obviously, here's some of my NON-squee moments (off the top of my head). Superboy (oh now you're just reaching). Supergirl (I swear, I couldn't like Kara. She was very meh for me, BUT she had to show up). Lana (obviously).

+++ Since season 10 is fresh in my head, I'll go there. I know there had to be some HUGE challenge for Clark, but I thought season 10 was kinda...weak. ANY of the moments where they had real life struggles (selling the farm, telling Lois, etc.) were AWESOME, but Darkside was SERIOUSLY badly developed. I think I was lost half the time, not to mention there were MAJOR plot holes. (WHEN exactly did Clark put Slade in the Phantom Zone? Did I black out on that part?) Villain? Weak. Ending of the journey? Good. There's obviously all sorts of evil out there and they just picked that one. (Though for ME, I would've loved the finale of season nine to be something akin to the finale of the show, but I get it.) I LOVED seeing that Clark's whole life had been Jor-El's trails (though the montage got a little old) and I ADORED seeing Lex's memories disappear (WOOHOOTESS!!!!!!!!!) I looked over my shoulder and Rusty was watching from behind me, the big dork. :D Even he wanted to know how it ended. And I swear, I was CHILLS galore hearing my music and seeing Clark open his shirt. You know how Christopher Reeve did THAT SMILE up in space at the end of the movies? Brandon Routh copied it in Superman Returns? Only that would've made it better.

Seriously. WHAT A JOURNEY. WOW.

(I don't care WHAT my husband or Marvel or George R.R. Martin says, Superman is the shit.)

(And now my life can go back to being normal. :) I'm gonna go FINALLY watch Hawaii Five-0.)
