Mkay. Remember that entry I wrote about how Rusty's mom just really f-ed up his courage when it comes to doctors and such? Y'know, scared of dentists because of one bad experience? Well, here's another:

She took him to see an optometrist when he was a teenager who said his eyesight was progressing so badly and so quickly that he'd go blind. He's EXTREMELY near-sighted, and after the whole near-wreck episode last week, I was pushing him to go get his eyes checked and he's been scared shitless.

(I SWEAR. The woman just does NOT know how to get second opinions or even USE that blessing we have called judgement.)

So, Mom graciously watched Gabe while I went with Russ (for moral support) to the optometrist. After many many tests (for which I could tell he was trying not to panic) and the god-awful dilation, we sat down to talk with the doc. My dad told me about this guy and he is JUST the NICEST guy. OMG. And it rocked. He knew dad very well and used to teach at Samford and we had a good time trash-talking Samford. :P BUT. Russ's vision hasn't changed much since he got his glasses (which are about 8 years old) but we went ahead and picked out some new glasses for him. Dude. My hubby looked HOT is those new frames. :D And we're gonna try contacts after the first of the year. (Don't ask me why but our insurance just kicks ass in everything except health.)

So, the doc is doing the whole checking of the optic nerve and blood vessels and whatnot and I mention (like a mom, but I wanted Russ to hear SOME sort of an opinion about it) that the last asshole doctor told him he'd go blind.

And I SWEAR. I've NEVER seen a doc get THAT mad.

Case in point: Ive got a LOT of fears in Russ to try and scare away.

AND his eyes are PERFECTLY healthy.

But I swear, we got in the car, and he just squeezed my hand SO TIGHT and almost started to cry.

*feels good and annoyed at the same time*

It's kinda sad and weird when the wife has to come in and clean up the mom's mess. But my baby's feeling better and happy and relieved. And that's good enough for me.
