procrastination is the source of my low self esteem

unfortunately, I get my best ideas when I'm suppsed to be doing something else.  Vicious circle, that.

Anyway, as I'm supposed to be writing my novel responses for French lit, I thought I'd be a whiny little bitch, and then talk about my week.  In that order.

So, it's come to my attention that I'm a friggin do nothing.  I am a do-nothign with skills ( Read more... )

"Long story short, expect a scathing review of the 90s animated film The Swan Princess sometime in the near future."

*slaps* You stay the hell away from my childhood. I'm perfectly aware that it was a wannabe Disney knock-off. I fail to see how that's relevant.

"Children on unicycles!
YAAY!!
Performing horses!
YAAY!!
6,000 children are orphaned by AIDS every day!
um...are we clapping? not clapping? OHGODNEXTFLOATPLZ"

I love that town. <33333

if it's any consolation, it'll be scathing/humorous. I hope. I can never tell which days I'm actually funny.

Really, I remembered liking that movie a lot. Then Lis and I watched it and...well, it went down smoother than Thumbelina to own the truth, but if you still want to like it, then I suggest not watching it again.

I didn't even like Thumbelina when I first watched it. Just...what? And another case of all these awesome friends from through the story being disregarded because "OOH! Shiny fairy prince!" <.

most of the people she met along the road weren't actually that awesome. From an analytical perspective it's your standard classic romance setup-- love, separation, loyalty to love leading back to love, ends in wedding. Everyone she meets tries to swerve her from her path to love, trying to mold her for their own interests into something she's not, while the bird is there to keep her on her proper path or whatnot. The frogs have an ulterior motive, as does the bug guy, and the mouse lady tries to make her marry the mole. The only friends she really makes are those bug kids, who she talks to for like four seconds, and the bird, who is annoying ( ... )

I just remember her meeting good friends, for some reason, and that she and the prince talked for like fifteen seconds at the beginning of the movie and then became obsessed with each other.

I had a picture book version of the movie, and the animation works quite a lot better in still images. Once they start moving their body parts don't seem to be able to stay as one. And you'd notice how ugly they were if you didn't carefully capture them in one moment's prettiness.

I'm just going all lit major on this now. Everyone's trying to take her chastity! Run Thumbelina, run from temptation!

oh and totally, they can look very good for a frame or two but watching the movie is like....yowza.

Except from the prince, for...reasons. Something about bestiality? Though she's technically human (right?) and he's a fairy, so...um...biological/moralistic fail.

The prince is her true love, so he gets rights to her honor, after which she has to protect her chastity and remain loyal to the prince until they reunite and get married. This is so very The Fairie Queene, with the girl who runs from EVERYONE SHE MEETS because they are all after her chastity, every last one, and she runs and runs like the good virgin she is until she fins her love

Except Thumbelina doesn't run, she's very impressionable, and therein lies the danger. That's why she needs the bird guy to keep her on the path of the Good Virgin.
