Letters of Importance

Dear Fanfiction and Video websites,

Avatar the Last Airbender is not, I repeat, NOT anime.  It was inspired by anime, yes, but if you actually know anything about anime you will see that this is not it.  To the untrained eye it looks purely Japanese in style, but trust me when I say the art has plenty of western style in it.  Furthermore, the creators are American.  The animators are Korean.  And the show stays far and away from many of the more annoying anime tropes.  So please update your categories accordingly.  That's right, I'm telling you to put Avatar in the cartoon section.  It's where it belongs.  Also-- W.I.T.C.H. and Code Lyoko?  French.  Got it?  Good.

Sincerely (annoyed),
Liz

Dear World of Literature (and it wouldn't kill the television industry to read this either),

Please for the love of all that is good and holy stop titling books with the following prefixes: "Diary of a...", "Secret Diary of a....", "The Secret Life of...", "My Life as a....", and so on in that fashion.  I am sick of it.  You hear me? Sick of it.  These prefixes are an automatic NO for me, because They've been pounded into my head so much to associate them with the worst of the chicklit/sex sells/Young Adult categories of entertainment regardless of the quality of what's being presented.  There are waaaay too mant of books with such titles on the market.  An author is supposed to be creative--and yeah, I know a lot of the time publishers pick the titles, but somewhere along the conveyer belt somebody has to grow an imagination.  If there's already so many such things on the market with like titles, don't you think it's about time to, oh I don't know, COME UP WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT?!?!

I make exceptions for the following:  Bridget Jones' Diary (because It's awesome, and I read it before the influx of title clones), The Princess Diaries (because I thought it was a cute movie.  YEAH, I KNOW, SHUT UP and again, I hadn't noticed the cloning at that point),  Books that are actual diaries from people who existed (a la Ann Frank).

The rest of you have to stuff it.  Come up with a real title.

Yours and irritated as shit,
Liz
