I used to get annoyed at parents who did things ostensibly for kids that were really for them. Now that I am a parent and must daily face the brain-melting horror of catchy but insipid singalongs, I understand. There's one Music Together song, "Trot, Old Joe," that's a particularly virulent earworm.

I love "No!", and should try it again. The kids didn't like it when they were little, although they did like some of the Powerpuffs music. They especially liked the Shonen Knife and Frank Black and the Catholics numbers.
Bad books get me down, too. Would it be wrong of me to edit some of their board books? Not to cut stuff, but to relabel the "violet" correctly as a "violet-colored lily"? I already corrected the grammatical errors in their baby books. Couldn't respect myself otherwise.

Yes, that's me. :) I thought you'd figure that out. Clair_de_lalune talked me into doing this lj thing. (And of course now is teasing me because I said I didn't want to do it and am now doing it.)

Not wrong, but mandatory. I must be too tired to think straight, because I don't even notice the errors. But what I do notice is gender issues. No matter how much she loves being a little princess, I refuse to buy that Disney princess book in which the plot is basically a couple different princesses doing wedding planning. Gack! I love "Go, Girl, Go Potty!" because Sara puts a truck in the potty, and the corresponding boy book has the boy putting a teddy bear in the potty. (They're learning about the potty but not using it correctly yet. They also put it on their head. And this will definitely happen in real life.)
