You know... I'm getting really sick of hearing "WE JUST HAVE TO CHANGE HEARTS AND MINDS!", "We've got to tell our stories!", "We've got to go door to door and CONNECT with people

It's like the DC march. How it garnered almost NO media coverage. I'm so afraid that the nation, the media, everyone is pushing these things to the background, finding ways to ignore the gays, to make people forget that our fight is STILL HAPPENING.
It's scarily like the book 1984... if we don't record history, then it will be as though it never happened. If people don't KNOW we're struggling, who will remember we did?
I saw that you were "raised pagan." Google the song "We won't wait any longer." It's practically the anthem of the paganfolks, and can easily apply here too...
There is certainly a parallel there, between the persecution of pagans by the hands of Christian extremists and the persecution of gays by the same.
There's another one I found that seems appropriate too, "We Just Say, 'No!'" by Isaac Bonewits:
"Oh you've burned us and you've raped us. / You've torn us limb from limb. In your hands a bloody weapon, / on your lips a pretty hymn. You thought that you could silence us, / make the fires of freedom dim. But -- We say "No!""
FUCKING EXACTLY. Conservatives have started whining about how, "OH so you spoiled babies don't like democracy now?" when citizens' individual rights have NO BUSINESS being put to a popular vote. AT ALL. The state courts that already decided to recognize same-sex marriage must be cognizant of that!
I mean, I realize that this is how things like amendments and bills get put on the ballot and it's a part of doing democracy, but historically speaking we KNOW that the majority can't be trusted to protect the rights of the minorities--that's why it's NOT GIVEN to them. This should be no different! God DAMN it.
Fuck them, they don't know what democracy is. They think democracy is letting the people vote on whatever they want. They think democracy is 'majority rules'. Well it's not. It's making sure the tyranny of the majority doesn't trample the minority. Fuck them.
Just so you know, I just finished off writing to Obama in a rage over this issue. Seriously, he's been in office an entire year, and hasn't done shit for our country, unless making empty promises counts.
I agree that human rights issues should not be on the ballot, period. If they were, well, we'd still be living in a segregated society, and I wouldn't have had the chance to make friends with a lot of the wonderful people in my life.
I find it incredibly frustrating that I have to spend all of my spare time writing my representatives and spending what little is left at the end of the month on political causes THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ISSUES. Seriously, gay marriage shouldn't be a political issue! Family planning/abortion? SHOULDN'T BE ISSUES. Anything that involves anyone's love life or reproductive organs SHOULDN'T BE A POLITICAL ISSUE and all of the perverts who are obsessed with it need to find better ways to spend their energy.
I want to believe in Obama, to have faith in him, but if he doesn't do something SOON, like while we still have a democratic majority in the house, then those promises, as beautiful as they sound, won't be good for much of anything.
Obama totally sweet talked the country to get into its pants. This is like the morning after... not only did Obama slip out before we woke up but he took our wallets and didn't flush on his way out. The dastard!
Also, democratic majority means shit because they have no balls to stand up against someone. The republican'ts have been making them raise the number of votes a bill needs to pass legislation. What's this 60 votes bullshit? It's supposed to be in the 50s.
