Warnings: Involves cheesiness, blame Jonghyun. Also I just realised the summary seems to make this sound more humorous than it actually is. Self beta'd.
Word count: 1,605
Summary:  Key knew cheesy.

But even he was sure that this was crossing some lines.

- Key is tired of his schedule, of the world and its trials and tribulations. But it’s okay; Jonghyun has a plan.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Damn it. But this story is mine.

Notes: This is pretty much my first SHINee fic . I wrote it when I was in the mood for a story like this. Don’t Know What To Say, and Romance by BoA are recommended to listen to while reading this, they seemed to be what set my mood for this. And just so you know, there is no angst or Jongkyung to be had here. This is Jongkey all by themselves, apart from maybe the butler.

AWAY WITH ME

Key dug through his bag intently for his keys. He pulled them out to unlock the door, only to have them slip through his fingers, which were trembling with exhaustion, and tumble onto the floor with a clatter.

He stared blankly at the floor and wondered why the world was so insistent on testing his patience and limits.

He was incredibly tired and frustrated at the sadistic world that seemed to enjoy throwing things at him just to cause him irritation and anger.

Surely it could spare him one fucking break.

Key was exhausted from his busy schedule, hungry and in need of some serious cuddles.

He knew there was only one member at home at the moment. He knew he’d be waiting up for him even though he’d specifically told him not to; and for the first time he would be glad of his stubbornness. He was hoping he’d be willing to make him some ramen and baby him a little.

But he had no idea what awaited him as he finally unlocked the door to the dorm.

-

…God no.

Key knew cheesy.

Hell, he was in love with one of the cheesiest bastards around.

But even he was sure that this was crossing some lines.

Key quirked an eyebrow at the floor of their dorm, which was currently shrouded in velvety red rose petals. Towards the side, a narrow trail of white petals led off to the bedroom they shared.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he muttered, groaning inwardly.

However, hunger and fatigue forgotten momentarily, he made his way through the rose petals following the creamy white rose petals into the bedroom.

“Kim Jonghyun you better not fucking be in th-“

He froze; and breathed a sigh of relief, though there was a pang of faint disappointment that he pretended not to notice.

On the bed, scattered with more rose petals was not Jonghyun, but an elegant suit jacket. Silver, but muted enough to be unpretentious. Next to that lay some smooth black slacks and a crisp white shirt.

He was just thankful it hadn’t been a dress.

He slipped on the clothes, and he felt a stiff piece of paper inside the breast pocket of the shirt. He pulled it out. It was a note, scribbled in Jonghyun’s smiley writing.

Do your makeup honey, just because I know you love to. :)

Meet me on the top floor.©

Key rolled his eyes.

But at least he got to do his makeup.

---

Key was definitely ready for whatever notorious plans that boy had prepared.

If being ready for anything meant looking totally fabulous, anyway.

He hurried back into the dorm, making for the door; promptly sliding across the shiny floor, stubbing his toe on a table leg and tumbling over in a curious display of Onew-like condition. He groaned and sat up, realising the culprits of his fall had been his socked feet; in an effort to remind him of the absence of his shoes.

He made his way to the shoe cabinet, where he felt his toe nudge against something. He glanced down, and found a silver shoe box tied with pink ribbon. It had been placed behind the dorm door, which was now closed; revealing its hiding place.

As he tied on the gleaming dress shoes, he concluded that Jonghyun was most definitely losing his mind.

He’d have to do something about that soon; it was probably contagious.

But as he stepped out, wandered down the hallway and the elevator dinged open, he realised how wrong he was.

Jonghyun wasn’t losing his mind; he was already completely insane.

The elevator walls had been plastered in cream wallpaper that was patterned with curvy red roses.

And then there were the banners.

Good god.

His cheeks flooded with embarrassment.

The small elevator was positively suffocating with roses in sweet pink, red and white. Not even to mention- is that a chandelier? Holy shit.

But even as Key mumbled something about fuckin’ crazy people and the ideas that they get, tiny butterflies fluttered gently in his stomach and he was actually more touched than he would ever admit.

He let his mind wander as he pressed the button for the top floor, suddenly curious to see what was up there.

Then, he prayed that all the residents of this building were normal people and in bed; god forbid that he be in this personalised elevator with anybody else.  He’d had a tough day and didn’t feel like being stared at.

Or maybe he just didn’t want to share Jonghyun’s love (declarations of which were plastered all over the walls) with anybody else.

---

The elevator dinged ceremoniously as the doors slid open.

Really, up until now Key thought he’d had a crazy ride.

But now, now he was just confused as some kind of friggin’ butler led him down a hall, to reach a grand arched doorway draped in flowers.

He nodded, bewildered, as the butler motioned to the doorway, bowing as he departed leaving a disorientated Key to face whatever was behind that door by himself.

He gripped the door handle warily; then decided, to hell with it, and pushed the door firmly open, entering the mysterious room.

…Damn.

The sight that greeted Key’s eyes was an enormous ballroom, gleaming in the dim radiance of lights turned down low. There were candles, too, flames billowing softly in the velvet air that seemed to fill the room.

There were grand red curtains draped all around the walls of the ballroom, and he was sure that with the candles being so close to them, there was definitely a fire hazard to be found here.

Menial fire concerns aside; it didn’t mean he hadn’t been utterly bedazzled just by the sight of the room.

But before he had had time to question what exactly he was here for, the lights dimmed completely, leaving only the soft glow of the candles to light the room.

A spotlight burst from the ceiling, illuminating a suited man wielding a top-hat and cane, covering his face with the hat; a character in any other circumstances Key would have found extremely suspicious and/or sketchy.

Key had just opened his mouth to let flow the barrage of whats, hows and whys, when the man slid his top-hat slightly to the side, revealing a familiar eye and winked.

He was left struggling for words; which seemed to be the intended effect as the man spun on his heel and strolled briskly to a corner, where he pulled on the tasselled rope that operated the curtains.

The velvet curtains slid fluidly from one end of the room to the other, revealing massive walls of glass that held a perfect view of the shimmering city night.

He couldn’t stop his mouth from sliding open, but this time there were no words to spill out.

Instead, jazzy music flooded the room and the man sauntered towards him.  Upon arrival he swept his hat off in a deep bow. He looked up and Key looked down into the familiar liquid-brown eyes that crinkled in an eye-smile, as his Jonghyun offered a hopeful, but dazzling grin.

“May I have this dance?”

Key had no idea where on the way being totally sappy and cliché had suddenly become okay, but it had.

He didn’t even have to suppress a comment about the fact that this entire thing was basically the epitome of cheesy; because he simply couldn’t find even the slightest desire to mention so.

So, he just smiled ruefully at the boy bowed before him, and murmured, “Why not.”

And when he saw the way Jonghyun’s eyes lit up when he accepted, he was glad that he had.

The boy drew himself up to his full height, which had always been found incredibly endearing and rather adorable by Key, while not particularly high.

Or it would’ve been, had Jonghyun not been wearing insoles, seeing as he was currently a good two inches above him.

Not that that made him any less endearing or adorable. Or drop dead gorgeous.

He offered a hand and a smile, and Key accepted them both.

Even as Jonghyun pulled him into his arms, he still really couldn’t believe the soppy love scene that had unfolded before his very eyes.

But as they swayed and clung to each other in the tender warmth of candlelight and the stars above and in the city below them twinkled merrily, cheesy as it was; even he had to admit it felt like all kinds of wonderful.

The song came to an end and they slowed to a still. The next song began playing, but they simply stood there, content to cuddle for the moment, Jonghyun pressing his cheek into his soft hair.

Key gazed upwards (to Jonghyun’s utter glee) and asked quietly, “Why?”

Jonghyun looked down.

“Because I wanted to take you away from it all,” he whispered, leaning to nuzzle Key’s nose gently with his own.

Goddamn that cheesy, romantic puppy.

Jonghyun slid his arms away from around him, cupping Key’s face in his hands.

He traced his features, his lips brushing Key’s warm forehead carefully, tenderly.

He drew back momentarily, both of them sharply drawing breath, knowing what was coming next.

High above the glimmering night of Seoul city, their lips collided in a flurry of sparks and it was beautiful.

In this fluid black night, the city below them was nothing but a glittering sea of stars and the two boys floated high above it, on wings of their own.

And most certainly, Jongyhun’s plan had worked; because as far as Key’s brain was concerned he was drifting far, far away from everything, anything, but the boy before him.
