Title: What Dreams May Come
Pairing: Cho Chang x Draco Malfoy
Rating: PG

He lays his head in her lap, drifting in and out of a dazed nap. Her smile beams at him, and she looks smug. As if she is the luckiest girl in the world, and she is. No one else can claim to be Draco Malfoy's girlfriend, and it is a title she holds to the highest esteem.

Suddenly, the train lurches and Draco finds himself face down on the compartment floor. But the floor isn't carpeted. In fact, he finds himself no longer on the train but in a dark forest with trees that play shadows across each other. An electric digital clock, embedded into the trunk of a tree, flashes "12:00" like a warning and Draco feels a shiver down his spine.

A scream slices through the air and he instinctively knows it's her. He runs. The forest fades into white and his steps crunch through peppered sand. A fork forms in the road, and Pansy stands in one path. Her eyes look sunken and hollow, her lips pale and pressed into a line. Short pixie-cut hair is plastered to her head, and her black dress sticks to her body, contrasting against her skin.

"Why couldn't you save me?" Her mouth moves and he can hear her pained shriek in his ears.

"Why were you there?" He counters. "Why couldn't you have stayed at home like I told you to?"

"You can't boss me around anymore, Draco Malfoy!" Her face remains stoic but her voice increases in decibels. "I loved you. That's why I came. To save you. But you're not worth it! I learned that too late. You're not worth it!"

"Yes, he is." Another voice, softer and serious, lulls in his mind. He turns to see Cho Chang standing next to him. For some reason, this doesn't surprise him.

"Shut up!" Pansy's face becomes contorted and she steps towards Cho, their eyes level.

The words blow into Cho's face like a hot and humid breeze, but she doesn't budge from her spot. "Pansy, I'm sorry you died. Draco loved you very much."

She scoffs. "He doesn't even know the meaning of the word."

"I did love you." Draco insists.

Pansy raises her eyes. "Then, come with me."

She lifts her hand for him to take. Draco begins to place his hand in hers when Cho speaks.

"Are you sure you want to do that?"

"No one was asking you!" Pansy glares at her. Draco seems hesitant.

Cho looks at him, honesty in her eyes. Warm comfort brushes his senses, startling him as he can't remember the last time he ever felt truly at ease. She speaks, and her soft Scottish accent lulls him. "Draco... you need to do what is right for you. Not what others expect from you. Not what your father says, or what your mother wants, or what your past..."

She pauses as her eyes flicker to Pansy, before looking back at Draco. She offers her hand. "Come with me."

"No!" Pansy screeches. "He belongs to me!"

Draco swallows, looking from one girl to the other. Tentatively, he reaches out... and in the end, he feels the warmth from Cho's hand. Pansy's ire raises. "You will regret this, Draco Malfoy!"

"I never regret anything." He says and closes his eyes.

A breath of a moment passed, and time felt still. Draco opened his eyes, finding himself in a dark room, lying in bed, his sheets knotted. A thin layer of perspiration covered his body, and he swiped at his forehead in a rough move. Gaining his bearings, he realized he was still at St. Mungo's. He threw his sheets off and quickly dressed.

Just as he reached for the door, it opened. Cho looked at him startled. He glared at her, almost daring her to contradict him, but without much fire behind his eyes. "I'm getting out of here."

She gave him a once-over and nodded, opening the door wider. "I'm coming with you."

He was surprised, but she continued. "Don't argue with me, Draco. You're still weak, and I have a responsibility to you since you are under my care."

"Chang..." He started, then stopped himself when the seriousness on her face told him she wouldn't budge from her position. "Fine, but don't think I will appreciate this."

"Of course not, Draco." She continued to use his first name despite his manner of address. She grabbed his robes from the wardrobe and pushed them at him. "Bundle up. It's cold outside."
