My singular obsession

Mar 08, 2006 19:12

I went into this briefly on quiet_charm (like the plug, calledinvain? ;) ) but since sevarem asked, I'm posting how I was drawn into the beautiful rare ship of Cedric and Cho.

How I love them... let me count the ways... )

obsession, love, harry potter: cho/cedric, cho-hate, harry potter, otp, ramble

I guess I always thought of her as sweet/nice, but in HBP, she started hexing people who annoyed her or argued with her. I can understand if a situation led up to it (like the Harry/Draco duel), but it seemed kind of harsh to hex someone who might have only verbally insulted her. (We all dealt with kids teasing us in school, but I don't think all of us got revenge or beat those kids up.)

This isn't to say that I hate/dislike Ginny. My like for her is growing. I just wish JKR wrote her differently though, because Ginny had so much potential. Ginny is strong-minded/strong-willed. She would have to be after what happened in her first year, where all her insecurities (which she told to Tom) were used against her. She could have been shown more as Hermione's girlfriend / gal pal / female confidante, that way she would have a bigger part in the earlier books (besides CoS) even though she is a year behind them in school. When she realized Harry liked Cho, and decided to follow Hermione's advice to move on, she started dating other boys. Maybe it's because of what happened in CoS that she didn't seem emotionally-invested in her relationships, but why would she date Michael if she thought he was a fool/idiot? And I felt sorry for Neville (I thought Ginny/Neville would be cute) and Dean (who seemed a little upset when Harry kissed Ginny). On the flip side, I thought Harry's interaction with Luna was shown better than the pre-HBP Ginny friendship.

Again, I don't hate/dislike the Harry/Ginny ship. It's one I'm getting used to. If Ginny's character was as developed as Hermione's, I think I would have loved the ship earlier.

Well, with Michael, Ginny didn't call him a fool until he was about to run over and blab about the DA at the breakfast table. I think that was more an annoyed reaction than anything. And she broke up with him when he turned out to be a whiny loser, so I can't say I blame her.

Why do you feel sorry for Neville and Dean? She never dated Neville; they just went to a dance together. And the relationship with Dean seemed to run its course. I do agree though that Ginny's character could have been more carefully developed over the books. I really liked her more prominent role in OotP, but it did just kind of spring from no where, didn't it?

I'm a big Harry/Ginny shipper. *points to icon* That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying your fic, which I'll try to have back to you in a few days. ;)

LOL.. well, I don't want to step on your toes. I'm not an avid shipper of any of them (I'm not really an avid shipper of Harry/Hermione either; I wrote the fic more as a challenge). As I said in your journal, I tend to become singularly-obsessed (so my obsession is Cedric/Cho). Perhaps when book 7 comes out, I will fall in love with Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny (because *hopefully* JKR will flesh the relationships out).

I feel sorry for Neville because I thought the dance could be the beginning of something. He's like the underdog, clumsy, shy, awkward... but he could turn into a heartbreaker later in life. Maybe I need to read the books again - I thought Dean was upset by the display, but if he's okay with their relationship, then I have no problems. Dean's character is even less developed than Neville, but at least, he believed Harry (or opted to stay neutral) during the beginning of OoTP (compared to how Seamus acted). It just felt like he liked her more than she liked him...

This is AWESOME. I think we've played comment tag more than I've ever played comment tag. We're telling stories in the comments of your lj.

I want Neville and Luna to get together. I know they won't, but they're my alternate pairing of choice.

I like Harry/Ginny A LOT, but it's okay if you don't. My toes are resilient and covered in steel! And they have funny hats.

What other pairings do you like? (Besides your awesome obsession with C/C.)

I'll give you a new icon today. *point point* Enjoy the colepuffs.

LOL - I know... this is the longest comment thread I think I have.

Neville and Luna would be cute together.. but then I think Luna would be cute with anyone (like Ron or Harry, even though they're spoken for). She could even go opposite with Draco because I don't think she would mind / be upset by Draco's comments (he won't be able to push her buttons like he does with the trio).

Do you like Ron/Hermione more than Harry/Ginny? or the other way around?

I thought Harry/Luna was better than Harry/Cho.

Other pairings? God... let me think and get back to you. ;)

This thread is GREAT. We should probably take it to email soon though, or IM each other (purplemisochan on AIM).

The idea of Draco/Luna is FUNNY, but I don't think it'd work. I think he'd be weirded out by her. Ron/Luna is amusing too. *thinks about it* Yeah, that I'd like to see. In GoF and OotP, I was pulling for Harry/Cho to work out, but there you go.

I think I like Harry/Ginny slightly more than Ron/Hermione simply because Ron and Hermione irk me quite a bit sometimes. I just want to shake them and tell them to GET TOGETHER ALREADY! Which is why I thought Ron/Lavender was hilarious. I love the romance in the series, I really do. I'm one of the few, I know, but it greatly amuses me and it's pretty much everything I expect out of teenage romance.
