i might have a strange fascination with the carpenters...oh well.
so, catch up on life....i've been a busy girl.
The week of spring break I went to Indiana University (IU) and the University of Maryland (UM). IU was/is my first choice, but there were some money concerns and I was nervous that my prospective mentor wouldn't take to me. At UM, I got additional honors fellowship, so they were throwing a lot of money at me but I wasn't sure if I really cared for the research areas.
In any case, I'm really glad I visited them both. My visit at IU went really well, even though I only got to talk to 4 people. My visit at UM went okay, even though I got to talk to pretty much everyone ever. To keep this story short, at IU my mentor and i got really excited about each other and geeked out on central asia, and i got my fellowship for that first year (have to take chinese, oh darn...lol). At UM, i felt like most of us were a little confused why we were both there...even though we all agreed that both parties are nice and do/will do nice stuff.
So, I just have to cross the t's and dot the i's and I'm going to IU!.
well, during that week I was also trying to finish writing my thesis and relax and stay sane...measured success at all three. Oh well, I'll get a break after I graduate.
The summer job will consist of random cultural resource management projects at the lovely Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin. It wasn't my dream gig with the NPS, but it was one of my top choices. The woman sounds really awesome, and the work sounds like a great learning experience with potential to be both interesting and challenging in practical ways...which is good because I could use some more skills at being practical. Also, I will learn to really drive this summer, seeing as how I have to drive about 13 hours to get up there. I think it will be a really great experience though and give me a good inside look at the NPS, especially since I have been kicking it around as a job. and who knows what shenanigans may ensue? also, i probably will get to see ryan, which would be spectacular. i do miss him still..
so, this week is editing the thesis, and then on friday i send it off. thursday sash is coming up to visit!!!!! things are falling into place for the next six years of my life, which is still a little scary sometimes but i'm excited. it won't be easy, but i wouldn't have it any other way. life means growth, and darn it i'm going to take all i can get!
