Exercise and slight diet tweaks...

I have never believed that full-on dieting, "this is what you must eat and nothing else" style dieting, works. I do, however, believe that tweaking what you already eat by adding some foods and removing one or another, does. And with a certain amount of motivation prompted by my nearing departure for the University of Waterloo, I have decided to get in shape.

On a lark I picked up a copy of First, a $2.99 women's magazine because the front page advertised "Loose 20 lbs in a week!". Surely, you jest, I said, and bought it for the entertainment value. However, the article had some genuinely good suggestions, such as smoothies for breakfast (which I abhor, by the way, and replaced with fresh fruit or a single slice of toasted rye bread with jam/peanut butter) and adding vegetable broth as a drink at most meals (which turns out to rock, by the way). It also recommends dropping all bread and other wheat products in favour of brown rice. I hate cooking rice, I screw it up royally. However, the Bulk Barn, where I get 15% off each Wednesday because I am a student, has brown rice pasta, which is incredibly good. Bread tends to do bad things to my digestive system, so I said alright, let's try it. The diet also suggests eating pineapple and papaya every day. This will supposedly heal one's "leaky gut" syndrome, aka the damage our new fangled foods and sugars have done to our intestines. Luckily I love pineapple, so this was not hard.

So, by eating a heckuva lot more fruits and veggies, cutting out most bread and replacing it with rye (gluten free) and brown rice pasta, I feel awesome. I also started jogging again, and in the past week I have lost 5 lbs and have more energy than I can ever remember. All this, just by cutting out bread and adding more veggies, fruits, and home made vegetable broth. I should also note that I eat no dairy (lactose intolerant) and no pop, and very little sugar. I am now gearing up, trying to get two or more hours of exercise each day because A) I have the time and B) I want to be in shape and C) I wanna look damn hot for frosh week.

I am so posting pictures when I get to my ideal weight. I feel like a goddess already.
