Clockwork Dolls and circus

I made a new icon! It's my "blathering about circus arts" icon, and also the makeup look I designed for my performance a few weeks ago. I pulled the above "Clockwork Doll" poi piece together in three days before the show, proving that even when given an entire month to make a new act, I will do it the weekend before the event. I don't feel that bad, though, because I did spend most of the month workshopping an acro piece that I ultimately shelved (ironically, because I was worried about space, which I ended up having more than enough of). I never shoot my pieces, not counting hours of aerial footage that I scrutinize and inflict on other people, so making the video was a bit of fun.

The show itself was BANGING. I've been a fan of A+D since high school and getting to share a stage with them was a serious dream come true. The club (Beco 203)was gigantic and hella fancy- the door alone was 50R, or about $30US. I got my two housemates on the guest list because I figured I owed them for listening to me bang around to the same song on repeat for three days straight. The crowd itself was a little thin, but the energy was great. I wound up spending the entire gig in character, hanging out in my own spot light on stage, improvising acrobatics and contortion to the music, with a bit of contact juggling thrown in. My poi piece would've massively benefited from some LEDs ("Why didn't you just ask us to pick them up for you from the Haight?" Adrian asked me post-show) but it went over fine. Diedre offered me a paid performance spot in their New York gig in May and a standing invitation to do their regular San Francisco party, and David, the German DJ, offered to kidnap me back to Amsterdam with him, which I politely refused.

Although it was tempting, as I leave Sao Paulo in two days, and Amsterdam is on my list...
