Aw, I wish I had known you were going, it would've been nice to see you! Now that I'm back in Olympia, I'm kicking myself for not seeing everyone I know in Seattle and never have time to see when I'm up there.

Poi, but fire's against the rules at Folklife. Lot's of poi spinners there, mostly disaffected teenagers with technical skills and no sense of theatricality. They annoy the hell out of me.

My troupe was doing shows on the hill by Fisher's Green, both days. Saturday we were more up on the hill, as you walked around the big field.

I had a fair number of friends who came to see our shows, and people I recognized as real humans beings with communities in their lives who had different motivations for coming to Folklife. But overwhelmingly, and keeping in mind we pulled audiences of 30-50 people every show, the people I saw were 9-5 suburbanites with obnoxious children who would've treated us MUCH differently had we met outside of Folklife. That's why I have so few qualms about lying through my teeth to take their money when I do street shows.

The cotton candy was pretty damn good, though.

I thought that's what the fire was called, but I wasn't sure. And the guy I saw was exactly one of those teenagers.

I may have actually seen you, but not realized it. We were up on a raised platform, don't ask where on the map, we got to it walking from the museums that were mean and not free, and watched the Fisher Green from above for over an hour. There were people juggling, lots of balls at once, but not for extened periods of time, less than a minute probably, and someone with a hoola hoop. Was that you guys? They're the only people I saw on the green.

There was a good balancing (I guess you woudl call it) act right next to the beer garden close to you. They were climbing on each other and throwing each other in the air.

But yes, I know many of the people you mean.

And I think you might have enjoyed me trying to explain what hippies are to everyone. I just finally said, you see tye-dye, you see dreadlocks, you see hippies. If you see these things, probably but not always, you will have a mellow festival like this. But had to explain mellow too. And tye-dye. It was a good time. Translation. It's always fun. I hope I some day learn a language well enough to understand what people explain to me I've said wrong. ...I hope that that grammar is right enough to be understandable. ...

Nope, those were just kids juggling. I knew a handful of them, but they weren't doing it for money or a show. My troupe was off to the side of the green, down a walkway on a hill- street performers aren't allowed on the green itself.

The acrobalancers were Circus Amongus, a troupe made up of Dream Science kids from Bellingham, and their act was pretty killer. Again, friends of ours.

Now that you say that, I remember their name. They were pretty awesome. What I could see anyways, I am very short, afterall.

Glad that we had... a two-degrees of separation reunion?
