Growing old, mandatory. Growing up, optional.

A long time ago I met Maya Angelou. She told me that she still plays with toys. She makes entire villages out of Play-doh and acts out stories with the people she makes. That's how she gets ideas for stories.

I mention this cause I've playing with My Little ponies all evening. Well, making them with a MLP Pony Creator. Linkage below.

I made one to look like my very favorite pony of all time, and favorite toy ever growing up, Firefly. My Firefly was a warrior and badass. She protected the other ponies. Her best friend and partner in crime was Medley, played by my sister.

When my parents were filling out the paperwork to buy the farm, we were outside by the very old, very good smelling lilac tree in the sideyard that grows next to what became our bedroom windows. It's still there. A bird's nest was tucked into its branches, and we'd never seen one so intact and well crafted. It begged to be a pegasus pony's home. Course we fought over it, and we ended up spending our time decorating the nest and building a nice one for my sister in another branch up to her exacting and demanding standards.

I remember the realtor, a young man, old to us at the time, coming out several times to check on us or see what we were doing. He couldn't believe we were still doing the same thing all that time, and we replied, "But we aren't done yet." We'd spend days building an entire city in our sandbox, this was nothing. After we got the house, I found a bird's nest on the ground in the woods for my sis, but it was a little small, so it became a baby pony's nest in the same lilac.

Anyway, I'm very much enjoying the new MLP show, and the crazy fun fandom. There's a whole site listing all the fan made games made by bronies. I've been playing them too. And there's fan remixes, videos of course, art, and all sorts of fun to be had. And it's so weird that so many of them are guys.

But it's so interesting to get a guy's POV on things! Like, in an ep where Rarity makes all the friends fancy dresses for a ball. She works like a dog and then the ponies don't like them, and want ones that they had input on. So many guys were commenting, "Why are they being such bitches? Those first dresses were fine." I totally get why they weren't thrilled with the first dresses. It's like, the main characters aren't people, so it's okay for grown men to watch, but they are fascinated with what the female characters do and think. The most girlie ponies seem to be the most popular with guys to my surprise.

The show has a lot to appeal to grown people. I think also that many people are so stressed out these days, they relish watching a silly pony show where they have adventures and are funny and weird, and everything is happy by the end. Anyway, I embrace this trend, and I'm going to make another pony or go play some more 8-bit throwback pony games now.
