I just found out this place is actually open for business. You can buy their sauce online. This is a Wonka-like experience in that no one ever goes in ad no one ever comes out.

What kind of music are you improving on? I can give you some really good bands to listen to with violin. I find I learn alot about improv stuff by listening around.

I think of you every time I pick up my instrument! We have been playing Jazz mostly. I have also learned some basics to play rock or blues. I now know Dorian, Pentatonic and the blues scale. Let me know if you have suggestions on bands. Thanks.

My tastes tend to be really eclectic, so I tend to jump all over the place on what I like to listen to for inspiration. If you want a good basis of jazz violin, you can check out Stephane Grapelli. He was the first violinist in France to import American jazz to Europe in the 20's and 30's. I also really enjoy the improv work of Mark O'Connor. He was a student of Grappelli. I did a master class with him a few years back and really felt his style of playing was the most inspirational for me. You can also check out Jean Luc Ponty and Vassar Clements for some good jazz stuff.

I also play in a Western Swing band that does alot of the old timey jazzy swing stuff, like Bob Wills and Johnny Gimble. Not exactly jazz, but alot of really good licks and the such you can import into your playing.

Oh yah, there's one more band I just absolutely love called the Dixie Dregs. It's a prog rock band from the late 70's and early 80's that uses alot of electric violin. It has some amazing technical stuff and it emulates an electric guitar very well. Definitely check them out for some rock influence.
