prima donna at the luminato festival, and snow

oh, my stars. it's been a long, very long time since i've posted a real entry.

i'd really like to go to toronto this summer to see the north american debut of rufus wainwright's opera, prima donna. it's playing during the luminato festival, which i think would also be lovely. unfortunately though, making these plans requires that i buy tickets to the show this month to ensure they don't sell out. i can't arrange to leave the country, book a flight, a hotel room, and buy tickets for a festival and an opera more than six months in advance. not to mention, who would want to shell out around $2000 to accompany me on this adventure? not anyone. i don't think it would be much fun to go alone.
originally, prima donna was going to open in new york at the met last summer, but they and rufus had a falling out after they insisted he write the libretto in english. he refused and wrote in french, so the show debuted at the manchester international festival instead. judging by the the other commissioners, toronto is as close to houston as prima donna is getting. ugh, rufus!

in other news, houston is supposed to get two inches of snow tomorrow! two inches! it's going to be sort of exciting if it really happens. however, i'm not looking forward to the feel of frigid air when i leave for work at 6:30 tomorrow morning.

i'm not sure whether anyone will read this, but i hope you're all well and happy.
