-This was going to be a comment on my little Corinthians post, but its long, so here:-

This was supposed to be poking fun and not opening up a genuine discussion about the merits of different religions, as compared to one another. Every religion has its strengths and weaknesses, and none of them make any sense when viewed on the internet, including Scientology.

I should have made clear that this was all taken from a website which illustrates the bible using Lego.

Also, Christianity is the best target for my little post for many reasons which go beyond displaying it as a causer of problems. The idea was to get a rise out of the lady folk, and I'm not going to find such gold to do it with in the pages of an L. Ron Hubbard title.

Finally... yes I am aware of where the different factions of Christianity came from. And yes, when I said "Well, part of my point was exactly the fact that some people have chosen to take what they will of the religion and ignore the rest (including the last 30 years)", I was, in fact, suggesting that I think its some kind of problem. The thing is that those factions came out of interpretation of the bible, not simple disagreement with what everybody knows it says.

I do NOT think its a Mooresque question of "GOOD OR BAD?", but I still think it says alot. That particular point is not an argument against only Christianity. I know people who think its a good thing, and there's SOMEthing to be said for not letting your tradition fall behind the times.

Look at the pre-socratic philosophers, though. Then look at the crew hailing out of Thermopolae. Then look at more modern ones. Most are severly outdated, but modern acedemics try to keep the spirit of what they say intact, and in context, so that their wisdom is never lost. Their nonsense (back to the pre-socratics) is laughable; but, so is a lot of Christianity (et al.). Responsible acedemics don't go back and twist (or omit) the words of the old-timers to suit their modern agenda (I'm lookin' at you, Nietzche). By modernising we are draining religion of its spirit (as in the term "spirit of the law"), even if the change is something as logical as saying "no, women do not have to remain silent at the assembly; that's not fair."

If your tradition doesn't work anymore, then quit fucking around with it and find a new one. So there... now there has been entirely too much discussion on this Lego-induced controversy. If anyone needs to continue the thought, we all have our own accounts and there are great lj communities out there for doing it (I assume, but maybe they know better). I think I'd like to stay out of it, I don't have that kind of time.

Final note: I'm sure the quotes listed up there are from an extremely old version of the bible, so don't be suprised if you can't find them.
