Ryan had his surgery this morning and everything went well as far as the surgery went. They gave him a nerve block to avoid having to give heavy duty pain killer. Problem is, the nerve block only worked on the front of his shoulder (and diaphragm) but they did all of the work on the back of his shoulder. So he woke up in pain and freaking out so he had to deal with the pain until he was awake enough to swallow some narcotics, which take an hour to kick in. Poor thing. I got him home and over dosed him on it just to get the pain to go away and then had to keep waking him up every so often to make sure he was still breathing.
On a more amusing note, he called me Matt, Aaron, Mom and Angie all in one conversation while waiting for his pain killer prescription. He still doesn't remember from one hour to the next what he did before. I have not slept more than 3 hours in the last few days so I can't wait for him to be better enough to make it through the night. At the moment, he has to get his pain killer at 11:30 and 5:30...AM and PM and it has to be taken with food. I have a little while before sleep is going to be welcoming me with delicious open arms.
