Title: How About Coffee
Fandom: Fueled by Ramen/Crush
Pairing: William Beckett/Evan Taubenfeld (pre-slash)
Rating: PG
Summary: It was a bad night.
Word Count: 241

William’s jaw tightens as he watches Evan play. He’s just off-stage, hidden mostly in shadow. The crowd is being loud, heckling the blond musician ruthlessly. They’re being downright cruel and it sparks anger deep in his gut. He wants to go out there, tell them where to shove it, and take Evan away. Hide him away, back on the bus. Something.

Evan carries on, not acknowledging the heckling. William’s just a little amazed by him, awed that Evan can endure all of that and still give one of his best performances. William gets the feeling Evan is trying to prove himself, show them that he isn’t just that blond dude from Avril’s band. He’s more than that, he’s the real thing.

William’s set is tense and he can’t quite keep the anger from his voice. His guitar sounds harsher, rough and raw. He cuts it short and doesn’t bother with an encore. He hands his guitar off to Tony and stalks out. He’s on the bus in minutes, stopping dead when he comes face to face with Evan.

Evan’s on the couch, curled up with his hands shoved deep into his hoodie pockets. He looks up, eyes huge and watering and Jesus. Isn’t William supposed to be younger one? Why does he feel so responsible for the other boy?

“Hey.”

Evan blinked, “Hey.”

“You wanna go get a coffee?”

Evan blinked again and then slowly nodded. “Sure.”

“Come on, let’s go.”
