It's awfully convenient, isn't it? You end up with two of your MC's having superpowers and weird resurrection quality. You don't actually know how it works, so let's talk about that for a minute.
We know a few things. Let's puzzle through this together!
1. It requires that the subject is actually dead to start with
2. And that they have enough of the misty country's energy that they are completely solid, enough to maintain their memory and willpower. Susan got hers secondhand through Alex, Damien firsthand from the actual country.
3. The subject has to willingly turn around and return to the living plane.
4. Once returned, there's no dying anymore. Anything that would kill an undead will work until it isn't there to work anymore, meaning sunlight will work until sundown, beheading works until there is nothing separating the head and body. Any wounds heal on the spot. While the subject is "dead" their soul is still attached to their body, but in extreme stasis, essentially a coma until the body heals.
5. When the body heals, it reforms as from mist, not just on the spot. This might mean the subject relocates to somewhere else entirely, most likely to the next nearest and/or largest source of misty energy, up til recently that meant Alex, but now can also mean Wolfgang. If there's a particularly fresh undead handy that might work, but seeing as that would require the dark god to be also nearby, and how he would probably eat the ghoul!subject whole, that's never been tested.
6. This gets misinterpreted (by Susan) as some kind of bond with Alex. Damien has no idea what's going on with that, so he's not interpreting anything, correct or no.
7. Not that she's ever tried it (or, hell, idk maybe she does with Wolfgang a little), but if the subject were to attempt any of the augmenting thing that Alex does, nothing would happen. That works by drawing on misty energy and using it to reshape a living thing's physical form. Without a living thing handy, it would either dissipate or just get absorbed by the subject. Misty augments would also not be effective on inanimate objects, or a dead body that has not gone through the ghouling process. It might work on an undead, but they really wouldn't know what to do with it.
Yeah. I can use that.
