OK, so, when I mentioned I was raising a baby kangaroo,
ladyknightanka asked very nicely if she could see some pictures. And really, who am I to deny such a polite request?
And I kind of figured, why post pics of just one of my babies when I could showcase my whole menagerie, so...
This is the star attraction at the moment, the newest and my most dependant, Ruby! She's about 7 months old and is a Red Kangaroo. Her mother was caught in a fence, had broken her leg and had to be put down. When we first got her she was very small and didn't even have all her fur yet. She has to be fed four times a day and drinks a specially formulated milk-powder. Ruby doesn't like to be left alone, follows you everywhere, likes to touch you and still spends most of her time in the pouch - or curled up in a bright pink beanie inside a pet bed - which you can see in the pics.
Ruby has made fast friends with Cuddles the cat. She will often hop up to her, grab hold of her with her little paws and lick at her. Cuddles puts up with it with the patience of a saint and even shares her pillow with Ruby sometimes.
And that brings us to the second newest to the group, Cuddles. She's a farm cat turned pampered pet. One day out of the blue she turned up at the front door meowing. It took us about two days to gain her trust and she hasn't left since. She has commandeered her own place by the wood fire and is the sweetest cat. Her overly loving ways are actually how she got her name... while receiving a rubbing against my face and a nice lick on my cheek, I couldn't help but remark, " Well, aren't you just full of love and cuddles!".
This is my turtle, Bubbles. I think she's a girl... it's really hard to tell with turtles. I got her on my 16th birthday and she was the size of an Australian 20 cent piece. Much bigger now.
Connie is "supposed" to be my sister's cat. But as my sister works away I look after her. She is like the cat version of my sister... demanding, attention-seeking, temperamental and really sweet to you when she wants something. She also never shuts up and is always vocalising. Like my sister. Connie loves to be held and is constantly jumping up on to my shoulders when I'm on the computer. She considers Ruby an attention-stealing, humongous mouse and regards her with scorn and suspicion.
And finally we have Kasha. She is a Red x Blue Heeler or Australian Cattle Dog. She is a big softie who enjoys chewing on sticks and barking at dust. If someone comes to the house she will bark like a big tough dog but if they come too close will run and hide behind you. She adores having her tummy rubbed and knows how to sit, stay, lie down and shake your hand. She also loves food very much and gets very excited around dinner time.
I've often said that I prefer animals to people... I love them all very much and wouldn't trade any of them for the world.
