The drive from the hospital to House's apartment was made mostly in silence. When he parked the car outside, and realized that his lights were already on and people who weren't Wilson were already inside, House just shook his head with a disbelieving snort. He pulled himself out of the car, leaning carelessly on his cane.
"Well, boys, it looks like we've got company. Let's see who they are and what they want."
He limped up to the door as Wilson pulled up, and waved at Jon and J.J. to help Wilson carry the food. Just as he got a hand on the doorknob, the door was jerked open and he was nearly smothered in a hug.
"Greg! You're here. So much has happened, and it was awful." Abby had her arms wrapped around House's neck and her head tucked in under his chin, tickling his nose with her pigtails.
House just sighed and wrapped his free arm around her waist. "Who gave you caffeine, huh? You know that stuff's not good for you." At the sound of a muffled cough he looked over Abby's shoulder and spied Tony and a woman he didn't recognize sitting on his couch. "Tony, you look like crap."
Tony chuckled dryly, fighting off another cough. "The plague will do that to you." He pointed at the woman sitting next to him. "Greg, meet Kate. Your new sister."
House just blinked as he slowly made his way to the piano bench and dropped carefully down onto it, pulling Abby down with him. "Wilson, I hope you got enough food. It seems we're having an impromptu family reunion." He waved jauntily at Kate. "Hi, little sis. Nice to meet you."
Kate half-heartedly waved back. "Hi, yourself."
House turned to grin at Abby. "Mom, meet your new grandsons: Jon and J.J." As the two boys flashed her small smiles, House waved his hand towards Wilson who was still standing just inside the door. "Oh, and that's Wilson. Now, how did I get a sister?"
Abby pouted at him. "Greg, can't this wait until after we eat? We even picked up some food on our way here. Please?"
Groaning at the puppy-dog eyes she flashed him, House nodded. "Fine. Everybody grab a plate; we don't get explanations until after we're all fed."
It didn't take long for everyone to fill a plate, though finding places to sit was more difficult. Eventually Jon and J.J. just sat on the floor with Abby while House and Wilson shared the couch with Tony and Kate got her own chair. After a few minutes of mostly quiet eating, Wilson finally leaned over towards House.
"Mom?"
House grinned. "She looks good for her age, doesn't she?" He laughed at Wilson's glare. "Abby is my sire. She's the one who turned me." He shrugged. "So, I call her mom."
Wilson reached for the Kung Pow Chicken and then jerked his head towards Tony. "And him?"
"Tony? He's technically Abby's uncle, but they were turned within ten years of each other, and Abby's always been more of a younger sister to him, so as far as the family is concerned he's my uncle."
Wilson's eyes narrowed. "Why are you being so serious all of a sudden, House? Not that I'm complaining, but you're usually more of a pain in the ass."
House sighed, then grimaced and reached out to prop his bad leg up on the coffee table. "Nobody just stops in to see me with no notice unless something's wrong. Besides, I'm tired. Cameron was staring at me all afternoon with that 'I'm trying to figure you out so I can make you feel better' expression on her face. I hate that."
"Ahh. That explains things."
It didn't take long for everyone to finish eating. "So, mom, about this sister I've suddenly acquired?"
Abby frowned, wrapping her arms around her knees and leaning back against the piano bench. "It was when Tony got out of the hospital after being infected with the plague."
"I'd been having premonitions that something was going to happen to Kate." Tony shrugged, taking a drink of his beer. "She already knew about Abby and me, so I asked her if she'd be willing to be turned."
Then Kate took over. "Abby told me about some of the other times DiNozzo'd had premonitions, and since I'd been thinking about it anyway I said yes." She leaned over and lightly smacked the back of Tony's head. "Of course DiNozzo here was still too sick to turn me himself, so Abby did it."
Abby suddenly jumped up and threw her arms around Kate. "Then two weeks later Ari shot and killed her. Or would have killed her if she'd still been human. But she's still officially dead."
"So you want her to stay here while you fix her up a new identity, huh?" House smirked. "I already have those two." He waved his hand at Jon and J.J., who had both been silently listening. "I don't have room for anyone else."
"That's not what we meant. We wouldn't do that to Kate." Tony smiled, then coughed again. "We just want her to have someone here to explain things. We'd take care of all of it ourselves, but we've got to be back at work or the new director will kill us."
Abby nodded, pigtails bouncing. "Now, how about you tell us about Jon and J.J., Greg."
House sighed. "Jon is Jack, only shorter, which is why he's here. And he's adopted J.J. over there since he's a clone, too. So I get to take care of both of them."
At that, Jon finally spoke. "I don't need taken care of, Pop. Just because I only look fifteen doesn't mean I'm an idiot."
"My mistake. I must have been thinking of some other fifteen-year-old clone."
Kate suddenly waved her hand in an attempt to get their attention. "I'm sorry, but...clones?"
Tony sighed, his head falling back against the back of the couch. "It's a long story. We'll explain it in the morning. I'm exhausted."
With that Abby jumped up and reached out to pull Tony to his feet. "We'll be back in the morning, Greg. Right now I've got to get Tony to bed." She then herded a bemused Tony and Kate to the door. "See ya, Greggie." Then they were gone.
The other four just sat in silence for a moment before Jon started chuckling. "Greggie?"
