Anthony sighed as he dropped to the ground, leaning back against the stone wall and wrapping his arms around his raised knees. He wanted badly to be elsewhere, for the past five years to have never happened. To still be fully human.
The man who had bitten him, whose name he still didn't know, was almost as violent in human form as he was as a wolf, and the other members of his pack were just as bad. They liked to grin at him after they changed back to human form, blood still staining their faces, and tell him that eventually he'd be just like them. A bloodthirsty killer.
He didn't really believe them, but the twinge of doubt kept him from trying too hard to escape.
Until the day that the leader came back the day after a full moon with an unconscious woman slung over his shoulder and told his pack that she was their new sister. He dumped her on the ground near Anthony's favorite hiding spot and walked away, never giving her a second glance.
Anthony did was he could to make her comfortable, then sat by her side and waited for her to wake up.
About an hour later she finally stirred, blinking open a pair of beautiful green eyes. She looked up at him for a moment, then smiled.
"Hi, there. I'm Abigail."
He smiled back, reaching down to brush her dark hair out of her eyes. "I'm Anthony." He decided then and there that no matter what the others had said, he was leaving. And he was taking Abigail with him.
They would leave before sunrise, while all the others were sleeping. And with a little luck, they would never have to see the pack again.
