I'LL TELL YOU WHAT WE'VE DONEjade_sabre_301November 26 2012, 02:11:33 UTC
our opponent will depend on the outcome of Alabama (#2) versus Georgia (#3). I am rooting for Bama because ROLL TIDE, but omg if Alabama plays ND in the national championship my mother and I will be ROOTING AGAINST EACH OTHER.
also ND hasn't won a national championship since the year I was born.
THE FINAL REASON ALL THIS IS A BIG DEAL is that, so, ND has won 11 National Championships, which I believe is more than anybody else. We're really, really famous for being really, really good at football. We are also very famous for being good at school, and over the past twenty years it has kind of seemed like as we got better at school we got worse at football, to the point where lots of people (kind of including myself) has pretty much assumed that the majority of our years of football glory were behind us and we could basically just expect mediocre-to-decent bowl games because hey, everybody wants to play us. We've been especially bad to mediocre since my sophomore year of college. The words "still relevant?" have been kicked around a lot. Also "overrated." At the beginning of the season, we weren't even ranked. We had a really, really touch schedule (several ranked teams from across the country), a unknown quarterback, a coach who's good but had not quite lived up to expectations, and a bunch of seniors who stuck around for the sake of their team.
but here we are, with the #1 student athlete graduation rate in the NCAA (99%) (I don't know what that drops to in football, but still) and the #1 ranked football team and we are going to the national championship.

:D :D :D :D
(I KNOW RIGHT? The other important thing to note is that we don't have a lot of the majors that football players choose at other schools [physical education, sports nutrition, idek, heck, we even got rid of communications because they thought too many athletes were choosing it], so, uh, not to say that our guys are majoring in "real" majors and the others aren't [Alabama's previous quarterback was a Rhodes finalist!], but maybe there's a higher proportion that are?)
January 7th! ESPN! The game is in Miami but tickets are, like, a thousand dollars, so WHOOPS GUESS I'LL JUST WATCH THAT ONE FROM HOME.

(That's pretty impressive, though!)
It's in a long while! (This is a big deal, I guess? I don't follow college sports or anything, but I always thought SUPER BOWL tickets were that price.)
