1. THIS. I am dying to know who her father is. And also see her with her mother WAS SHE THE LAWYER WITH YAKONSE HOW OLD IS SHE ANYWAY? I'm a bit confused on all the ages here but then again Aang was only like 66 when he died so still. Tenzin seems kind of old to have such young kids but then again he is a monk I DON'T KNOW.
BUT LIN. Every time she uses earthbending to see I just get so excited. And all the ass she kicks. And making her own road. And zipping up Bolin's fly. And. I love her.
2. YES THIS. And honestly in the present-day, if Zuko's still alive, WHY IS HE NOT MORE INVOLVED WITH WTF IS UP IN REPUBLIC CITY. Tenzin's always going on about Republic City being Aang's legacy, but it's Zuko's too. WHERE IS HE.
3. WELL a big theme of the show is that whole spirituality vs. technology theme--the fact that everything has been streamlined and there are just metalbenders EVERYWHERE and people are mastering techniques without understanding the underlying chi theory behind them. I think all the metalbenders and lightningbenders are just another sign of how out-of-balance the world (or at least Republic City) has come to be--it's either a world that's moving beyond bending and the Avatar (and thus probably towards its own destruction), or something has to give. So in a way, Amon taking away bending is bringing its own kind of balance--if people are going to be so ignorant to how bending works and its source that they can't figure out how to reverse what he's done (BECAUSE I AGREE RE: NOT DOING IT HOW AANG DOES IT AND THEREFORE PROBS NOT PERMANENT), then they don't deserve it anymore.
Which leads me to jump ahead to #8, which is that I'M NOT ENTIRELY CONVINCED AMON IS FULLY HUMAN, OR HUMAN AT ALL. He's gotta be working with a spirit please be Koh please be Koh to accomplish all this. But I don’t think he’s human.
BACK IN ORDER.
4. I love Naga. Ever since episode one where she howled along with the police sirens. I mean before that too, but that was the detail that just cinched my adoration.
5. I KNOW! And the screaming and lying on the ground like she was hurt! And the fire everywhere! And the choosing to run away! I LOVE HER AND HER DECISIONS SO MUCH.
6. I will have to watch again to confirm this. Darn.
7. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Although honestly I wouldn’t mind if she lost her bending and at least part of season 2 was about her figuring out how to get it back. Because they’re going to have to figure out how to get it back, and what better way to do that than with an Avatar who’s lost her powers? IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A LOGICAL EXTENSION OF THE LACK OF SPIRITUALITY THING PART OF BECOMING BALANCED AGAIN. But I would be down with some Avatar State too. Frankly I can’t believe they gave us that shot in a preview seriously WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
Also words cannot express my love for Lin Bei Fong. Did I mention that? Here it is again: WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS MY LOVE FOR LIN BEI FONG.
I would watch an entire buddy cop show that was just Korra and Lin Bei Fong having madcap adventures and solving crimes with the power of bending and friendship and badassery. I wouldn't even need a plot or deep character arcs. Like, Law and Order: Republic City. Korra is Detective Briscoe and Lin is Detective Green. That would be all of the TV I would need, ever. And you know that show would never be cancelled, it would have like thirty seasons and Platinum Gold Edition Collections featuring vignettes in the day-to-day, non-crime-fighting lives of the characters, and it would be awesome.
According to the Avatar Wiki, Tenzin is 51 and Pema is... 35. Which makes me wince when taken along with the past-tense Lin/Tenzin because Tenzin left Lin for a woman sixteen years younger than him and ouch. Even if it was completely above-board (which I think it was) and even if Tenzin and Lin were pretty much or completely over beforehand (which I think it was), it's still kind of... *side-eye*
I also really want to know where Zuko is! We have canon confirmation that he's A) alive and B) traveling around the world as an ambassador AND C) that he was heavily involved in Republic City. A + B + C = There is literally no reason for Zuko to currently be anywhere except Republic City.
With Amon and the bending and the chi bit, I really agree with the picture/discussion/diagram that went around Tumblr a few weeks ago: Amon is blocking the Crown Chakra. It all makes sense. In fact, it makes so much sense that I feel like any other explanation won't make sense. It's perfect. And! If he's blocking it, then it will tie directly in to Korra's spiritual journey, because she'll have to get spiritual to unblock it and regain access to her bending.
But even with the chakras blocked, I think she can still be pushed into the Avatar State, right? I mean, Aang went into the Avatar State way before he was dealing with chakras. So I think she's going to go Avatar State all over Amon and then come down and find that she can't bend anymore unless she's in the Avatar State and then spirit world trip!
I'm so attached to this headcanon that I'll be terribly unhappy if it isn't so.
Also, I am completely convinced that the spirit is Koh. It makes sense! We know that Koh has a problem with Avatars who don't take their job seriously, and it's only been in the last few episodes that Korra has really started to understand what she needs to be doing and how serious her duties are -- I mean, the Korra of Welcome to Republic City? She was not taking her job seriously. Korra doesn't have an Ummi to take away, but what's the thing she values most (at least in the earlier episodes)? Her bending. Her bending is extremely important to her, even moreso than other Avatars.
Which is what Koh would take away from her -- whatever she values most.
Plus! Amon claims that he "lost his face" to a firebender. Either he's telling the truth -- in which case, he wouldn't think he had anything to lose by striking a deal with the friggin' Face-Stealer -- or he's lying, but referencing the fact that he either doesn't have or has agreed to give his face to Koh in return for this power.
Honestly, my thinking is that he's telling the truth, and made the deal with Koh for the power to get revenge. And Koh, slimy and amoral as he is, only gave him the power to block the crown chakra rather than actual energybending, and just told him that it would be permanent (which it basically is, as long as people think it's permanent, because the more anxious and frightened they are, the harder it is to unblock the chakra). Maybe Koh doesn't have the power to grant another person -- specifically a non-bender -- the ability to energybend, or maybe he knows that blocking Korra's chakras will be enough to scare her into straightening up.

So many theories. So many.
