2 months; 8 years

It's been around 2 months since I last wrote an entry. Back then, I was busy as hell. I kinda am still, I guess. But the pressure isn't as high. Since exams and stuff...I've been lurking on LJ. Reading....commenting...but not writing.

--------------

Those months lurking helped me net two As (my first at UBC, one being a 4th year research course. Science research course. That means, not only looking up libraries, but actually creating data to analyze. Some people here know how difficult that can be.) CompSci classes lowered that beautiful average substantially. Changes will have to be made when I go back to school.

Speaking of which, I have a full time contract job now at Safeway IT. I test their kludge and write off on whether or not they put it in their checkstands. Interestingly enough, it allows for a certain degree of power because you can make or break a software release. I'm there until August, so it's not too bad. Yay for co-op. I would drive there if I could, but...

My car broke down! Yes! I have had have had a car! After my grandfather was pronounced legally blind, he signed the car over to me. Great, right? WRONG! It's a '93 Volvo 940. And although it's a Volvo, I never felt safe in it. Annie and I are driving around somewhere and every now and again we'd hear something that just make us mentally cringe.

It all came to pass last weekend when the power steering died on me. I found myself wrenching the steering wheel just to get home. We found the power steering belt ripped, the alternator belt dangerously wobbly, another belt lying on the engine compartment. The rubber on the tires are ripped because he drives onto curbs in order to find where the curb is in order to park.

Enough was enough. We're giving it back to him for storage so that I don't have to be dinged at ridiculously high insurance costs (despite receiving discounts on no accident driving for my entire driving career).

My laptop died. So my ability to use higher level programs other than Word is severly compromised. I contemplate buying a good deskie.

I don't have a special Valentine meme, so I just relate a story. Back in grade 8, I had a crush on this girl Lydia for a looooong time. In grade 9, on this exact day (read: 8 years ago), I 'fessed up and got shot down, albeit gently. The fact that we were still friends after that (in a time at Churchill when certain people were nasty), spoke volumes about her character. Still, I ran towards Mr. Picard's (yes, his last name is Picard. I swear I won't go there) Social Studies class and waited for the bell to ring while rolling around at my desk like a panda with a stomach ache. On that day, I learn 3 things:

(1) Ouch. 'Fessing is tough stuff. Especially on V-day.
(2) Even in puberty, there are some people who don't have crushes.
(3) Choosing a 5 minute break between classes to 'fess was not a good idea. The flip side is that I could have done it at lunch time when she was with all of her friends. *shakes head*

This year, my Valentine plans will be kept LJ secret.
