One.
Said all I want from you is to see you tomorrow
And every tomorrow, maybe you’ll let me borrow your heart
And is it too much to ask for every Sunday
And while we’re at it, throw in every other day to start.
Something is seriously odd with Ohno Satoshi that Nino couldn’t quite put his fingers on.
Well, it’s not like Oh-chan is seldom odd because, well as far as Nino could tell, Ohno is like the epitome of oddness but his general weirdness is something Nino’s been able to deal with over the years.
But this - well.
“Flowers, Oh-chan, really?” he grunts, arms crossed over his chest and couldn’t quite bring himself to reach for the three-piece, long-stemmed white rose that Ohno’s handing him.
Ohno nods, and then frowns. “You don’t like them?”
He tsks. “It’s not - I didn’t say I don’t like them, it’s just -“
“You don’t like roses?” Ohno cuts in, still frowning. “Shall I get you something else next time -“
“Alright, alright, fine, jeez. Give me that,” he says, snatching the flowers and making a big show of scowling at Ohno but it’s hard, considering the fact that Ohno is beaming at him as if - as if - ugh, what the hell. “and please, don’t give me anymore flowers. I can’t - what the hell am I supposed to do with them? They’re not even edible, you’re wasting your money over something that’s not -“
“Okay, so you prefer something that can be eaten, then? How about dinner? Tomorrow, can I come over?” Ohno asks without pausing and Nino feels a headache coming.
“The fuck’s wrong with you, Leader?”
Ohno grins and reaches over to touch the back of his hands.
“Nothing,” he says, “I’ll see you tomorrow with dinner, yeah? Chinese okay with you?” he says, but doesn’t wait till he answers before Ohno is marching away, humming under his breath.
The only thing Nino can do is shake his head as his eyes follows Ohno’s retreating back.
Two.
Now how about I’d be the last voice you hear tonight?
And every other night for the rest of the nights that there are.
“Leader, it’s late and I’m pretty sure we both have that interview scheduled tomorrow at crap o’clock in the morning -“ he whines, cutting Ohno’s continuous mumbles about the game Nino taught him to play in his mobile phone, sucking on his cigarette as he waits for Ohno’s response.
Ohno mumbles, “Are you sleepy already?”
“Not really, but sleep - sleep is important, you know? And we need it so -“
He frowns when Ohno replies, “I’ll hang up if you tell me you’re going straight to bed,”
“The hell?” he mutters, shoving his half-finished stick into the ashtray. “What do you think I’m going to do at this time, jerk-off? It’s like, half-past twelve, Sir,” he mocks, but then Ohno doesn’t seem to mind that.
“Just tell me,” Ohno asks, soft and if Nino is to be completely honest about it, Ohno sure sounded like he’s begging Nino to just answer him honestly.
Nino sighs, “I don’t know what the fuck you’re up to, but -“ he sighs again, “Yes, I’m going straight to bed, old man. Satisfied?”
Ohno’s quiet on the other end for about a few seconds that Nino’s left wondering whether he already hanged up. And then he hears Ohno say,
“Just making sure I’d be the last person you’ll be talking to before you go to bed,” Ohno says and he’s honestly perplexed that he is left not saying anything until Ohno says “Goodnight, Nino,” and hangs up.
He stares at his phone as if it’s something from outer space.
“Fucking what?”
Three.
I know people make promises all the time
Then they turn right around and break them
When someone cuts your heart open with a knife, now you’re bleeding
He stares at the invitation dangling in between his fingers, wondering why in hell he didn’t just throw the stupid thing away the first time he found it in the mail.
He even brought it at work, staring at it as if it would mysteriously disappear if he stares long enough.
It doesn’t.
It isn’t like he is expecting this, because fuck if he does, it has been too long since he’s seen her last. It’s been years since they properly faced each other and really, Nino never expected her to bounce right back and mock him by sending him an invitation to her wedding.
Well, it’s not like it’s wholly surprising; the news about her engagement had been in the news for months now and though it’s not like he still cares whatever is happening in her life, of course not, it’s just that, well.
He’s the one who has been left behind and yet, people think he’s the jerk who did nothing but hurt her. But people knows nothing, they knows no shit about how he’d been dumped for another man, then another and another, when she had promised to stand by him no matter what, to be there for him when no one else ever would.
But oh well, he guesses that’s just how it is.
A hand closes around his, and another snatches the invitation out from his grasp; he looks up to see Ohno’s face hovering too close for comfort, and in his eyes he sees something that makes his pulse race.
“What -“
“She doesn’t deserve you,” Ohno says in all seriousness, lifting their joined hands together if only to rub his cheek with the back of Ohno’s palm. “or those other women who came after her. Not then, not now, and definitely not ever,” Ohno says, ducking down to press his lips against the side of Nino’s temple and really, Nino would have freaked out if he has enough time to, but then Ohno is pulling away and is staring down at him as if he couldn’t stand what he’s seeing.
“It’s painful, I know,” Ohno whispers, soft and tender, before he’s stroking Nino’s cheek with the back of two fingers. “But if you let me - if you think it’s alright, I can help you deal with it, with the pain, that is. I - let me help you heal the pain, Kazu,” Ohno says, and Nino would have answered him if he has the brain capacity to utter the proper words but before he could do any of that, Ohno is moving away, taking the invitation with him, leaving Nino stunned and gaping after him.
Four.
But I could be that guy, to heal it over time
And I won’t stop until you believe it
Cause baby you’re worth it.
They’re sitting side by side, watching Jun yell at Aiba who is running around pants-less around the rehearsal studio. Ohno hasn’t said anything about the other day, when he walked away with the wedding invitation Nino received from his ex.
Ohno is in the middle of sketching something, a tiny guy with a huge head when he grumbles,
“Why, Oh-chan?” he says, trusting Ohno to understand when he couldn’t, because really, that’s the truth; he doesn’t get what Ohno’s up to, but for all it’s worth, he doesn’t think it is far worse than having to deal with people who doesn’t understand him at all.
Ohno doesn’t pause, doesn’t stop, his fingers continues sketching but he does hums and whispers,
“Because you’re worth it, Kazu,” Ohno says, simple and direct, and Nino’s heart threatens to jump out from his chest when Ohno adds, “And I’ve known it all along but I’m just - I was afraid I’d end up losing you if I did something about it,” Ohno pauses here, looks up and meets his gaze.
“But it’s different now,” Ohno says, smiling a little; “I’m taking this chance and nothing is going to stop me; you deserve someone better, Nino,” then, “and though I’m not saying I’m definitely the better one, I can honestly say that I’m a hundred times a better choice than your exes,”
He’s too shocked to even come out with a proper reply, but Ohno doesn’t look like he’s waiting for anything anyway.
He goes back to sketching while Nino finds himself caught between laughing out loud and crying.
Five.
So don’t act like it’s a bad thing to fall in love with me
Cause you might look around and find your dreams come true, with me
Spent all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don’t act like it’s a bad thing to fall in love with me.
“Stop that!” he shouts, knows that the others are already eyeing them suspiciously but he doesn’t care; it’s frustrating and really, he doesn’t know how to deal with this anymore.
Ohno doesn’t, and he sure looks like he’s ignoring Nino entirely; he’s putting rice into Nino’s bowl before he’s raising his head to stare at Nino.
“What?”
Nino frustratingly rubs a hand across his face, mindful of the way their three other bandmates are staring at them as if they couldn’t decide whether they should interfere or not.
“That -“ Nino points out, as he does his best to push himself as far away as he could from Ohno, and ending up backed against the farthest wall. “Stop that, I’m not a fucking child! I can very well take care of myself, could very well get myself something to -“
“I know,” Ohno says with a shrug, “But I want to, is there something wrong with that?”
“Leader, for crissake, you’re not -“
“I told you I’m going to take care of you and that’s exactly what I am doing,” Ohno replies as he grabs the chopsticks and holds them out. “If you think its wrong then just say so, you don’t need to yell or get mad,”
“Fuck, I’m not mad, I’m just - shit, I don’t even know -“
Ohno puts the chopsticks down and takes his own, before grabbing his bowl of rice, shoving a chopstick-full into his mouth.
“If you’re not mad, then what? Frustrated? Annoyed? Embarrassed?” Ohno mumbles as he reaches for two chunks of meat, dropping one on Nino’s plate and the other he shoves into his mouth. “Just tell me if it’s too much, if I’m doing it all wrong,” he says, munching, “but don’t act like it’s a bad thing, like letting yourself fall for me is the worst that could happen,” he says, then looks up.
“Come back here and eat,” he says, “see, you’re scaring them,”
Jun, Aiba and Sho are gaping at them like a bunch of fishes out of water.
He sighs, red-faced and grumbling as he goes back to sit, feels Ohno’s hand patting his knee when he does so.
He doesn’t say anything anymore when Ohno gives him an extra serving of rice, mindful of the way Ohno has kept his hand over his knee all throughout dinner.
Six.
No I won't fill your mind
With broken promises and wasted time
And if you fall, you'll always land right in these arms
These arms of mine
"Oh-chan, really, this is silly," he murmurs, hands shoved into the pockets of jeans, refusing to meet Ohno's eyes. The dinner went fine, at least after his apparent outrage, their bandmates opting on keeping their mouths throughout the whole affair and only eyeing him and Ohno like they were contemplating whether to leave the two of them alone there or stay just to know what would happen after.
But nothing had happened, at least he didn't start another shouting match because Ohno prevented him from doing so.
And now they're here, standing in front of his apartment door because Ohno had refused not to go up with him, saying he wanted to make sure he made it home properly.
He really feels like a girl on his first date and it doesn't help that Ohno has kept one hand down the small of his back the entire elevator ride up.
"Where are your keys?" Ohno asks, ignoring him yet again. He tsks and shakes his head, pulling out his keys and finally looking up to meet the older man's eyes. He flushes at the soft intensity he sees in Ohno's expression, the way Ohno regards him as if he's the most precious thing in his world.
He ducks down, wishes he could somehow hide the fact that he's blushing and his heart is doing that weird dance inside his ribcage again.
"Y-You -- You can go, I'll be fine here," he says, knows that his voice is shaking along with the rest of him, his keys dangling in his trembling fingers. He turns when he finds the right one, inserts it into the knob and freezes when he feels Ohno's arms wrapping him from behind and Ohno pressing his lips against the nape of his neck.
"Kazu,"
He finds that he's closing his eyes before he realizes it, his fingers stilling in the middle of pushing his door open.
"In case you've forgotten," he says, voice shaking, though he remains perfectly still in Ohno's arms. "we are outside the door and someone -- anyone -- could pass by anytime and catch us --"
Ohno squeezes his waist but doesn't pull away, and then murmurs, "Are you falling for me yet?"
Nino wants to laugh, but he wants to cry, too; he's turning around so quickly inside Ohno's arms he wonders if Ohno has been waiting for him to because he sure doesn't look so surprised, opening his arms and gathering him in.
He sighs when he feels Ohno's mouth settles against the side of his temple, keeping his eyes closed as he leans in further to the older man.
"Almost. I'm -- I'm getting there," he whispers, and smiles when Ohno ducks down to hide his face against the crook of his neck.
Ohno shifts after a while, only to press another lingering kiss against the side of his jaw and says,
"Don't be afraid, Kazu," Ohno whispers, kissing his temple, his cheek, his eyes. "Because I'll always be there to catch you. Always, I promise."
He doesn't need to properly answer that and he's sure Ohno doesn't, too. He just leans up and grasps Ohno's jaw, pulls his face down and seals his mouth over Ohno's own.
Seven.
Every morning I just wanna see you staring back at me
Cause I know that’s a good place to start.
He wakes up eyeful of Ohno’s face, Ohno’s fingers on his cheek and Ohno’s arm thrown over his waist.
He closes his eyes and ducks down to hide his face from Ohno, from Ohno's gaze that is making his stomach flutter. “Please tell me you didn’t spend the whole night staring at my gorgeous face,” he says, but his heart is already pounding so hard he’s afraid he’d die because of it.
“I like watching you sleep,” is what Ohno says, before Ohno is hooking a thumb under his chin to lift his face. "Look at me, Nino,"
"Don't want to," he mumbles, keeping his eyes closed because he doesn't know what he'll do if he sees the way Ohno looks at him again. "This --"
"Too much? Not enough?" Ohno asks, softly, "Tell me,"
He bravely leans forward to nuzzle Ohno's palm. "Yeah," he says, more like whispers, "Maybe more than I can handle. I'm -- I'm not good with this and I wonder how long it will take before you give up --"
"That's not going to happen," Ohno retorts, "I already told you, didn't I? I know it'll be hard for you to believe me but at least, at least, allow me to show you how I'm planning to prove you wrong. You -- You're too important, Kazu, too precious so let me show you how much you mean to me. Just -- just let me try, okay? Let me show you,"
Nino looks up in time to see the quiet desperation tugging at the edges of Ohno's mouth, realizes he's reaching over to smooth it out, smiling in spite of himself. His fears are nowhere to be found now, his doubts melting along with his desire to fight this growing attachment to Ohno, the desire to hold on to Ohno's words and promises.
"I -- there's no need for that, I think," he murmurs, swallowing the lump that has formed in his throat, stroking Ohno's cheek with the tips of his fingers. "I think I already believe you," he murmurs, bites his lips when Ohno's face breaks into one of the most gorgeous smiles he's ever seen on the other man's face.
The next time he closes his eyes, it is to savor the moment because Ohno has somewhat seizes him by the collar of his shirt, closing the distance between their mouths and kissing him hard.
Eight.
So don’t act like it’s a bad thing to fall in love with me
Cause you might look around and find your dreams come true, with me
Spent all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don’t act like it’s a bad thing to fall in love with me.
"Ready?" Ohno asks, holding out a hand.
He smiles and lets Ohno fuss over him, lets the older man fix his tie as he keeps himself still and just watches the older man.
"When you are," he says, grinning when Ohno leans in and presses a kiss against the side of his mouth.
"Always," Ohno says, and takes his hand. He nods and lets himself be tugged forward, their fingers clasped together.
Yes. Always.
