So I just learned that apparently the city will soon be making us pay for a recycling program. They give us bins and we pay $8 a month for them to go around collecting, whether we use it or not.
That's stupid. A lot of people, including us right now, don't have the extra cash to spend on this. I have nothing against recycling, it's a pretty good thing, but we won't even use it so I don't see why we should have to spend food money on it.
We burn all the cardboard and paper, we take in the cans and bottle to the depot for the money once every couple of months, and we'll only have maybe one or two milk just each month.
This whole thing is just a huge waste of money that would be better put to use fixing the fucking roads or something! Seriously, after the snow melts and freezes again so many times the roads are just destroyed. There's this one road that the zoo parking lots are on, and I don't think it's been fixed since I was born, or at least since I was little. It's always been really bad, but now the potholes are insane. It's actually "no through traffic" now! I mean, you can go on it anyways like dad and I did yesterday, but you're in serious danger of getting stuck or wrecking your car. All that ends up happening is the city fills in the holes with dirt and gravel (this was once a paved road) and it just turns into a muddy deathtrap.
Even the residential roads are starting to break down, the once side of the main road leaving my community is so bad at the sides now that people have to drive down the middle of the road! And don't get me started on all the drainage problems, roads have been totally flooded because of the melting snow overflowing the sewers.
