There's No Place Like Home

Today's Writing Effort

James and I woke up, snuggled a bit, and then got up so that we could pack for the trip home. I tidied up a little bit and washed the dishes in the dishwasher and then we got an Uber that was supposed to take us to a restaurant called Flights, but the driver didn't know where it was really and just dropped us off at The Paris. So, I got a strawberry & cream crepe at this place called Dominique Ansel Marche and James got fries from Bobby's Burgers, which he said were the best fries he'd ever had. Then we went to the airport.

TSA checked both my purse, probably because of the last bit of 24-layer chocolate cake that was in it, and James' backpack, because of his coffee supplies. But we made it through and got to our terminal. They changed gates on us, but we didn't even have to change seats because it was the next gate over.

The flight was uneventful. I napped a little bit at the start. I wish James and I could have sat next to each other.

When we got home, Jenny picked us up in her car, but because it was full of her things, we had a hard time getting the suitcases inside. We managed, but it was a near thing. When we got home, I had to get in my car almost straight away to go and pick up the mail. There was a box of hay for the bunnies waiting for me that Jenny never picked up.

Then I set about putting the house to rights and Jenny started the fire. Of course, starting it so late in the day means that I'm going to have to stay up until it's up to temperature or we'll risk a busted pipe. And the house, which I left clean and tidy, was a mess. This is part of why I feel like I can't leave the house for more than a few hours. Every time I go away for a day or two, I come back to a boat load of stress. It's almost not worth it.

So, I tidied up, washed the dishes, tended the fire, gave Thumper his evening medication, did the evening watering (which I don't think Jenny did at all while I was gone) and moved the chickens from their usual perch to under the roof of the rabbitry so that they don't get snowed on too bad. Hopefully this will give them a second, less windy/snowy perch for the nights.

Oh, and Jenny said she had accidentally been double feeding the cats. *Le Sigh*

I left really clear instructions. REALLY CLEAR. And she could have called me at any time, or texted, if she had questions. But she didn't. And I, fool that I am, thought that everything was fine here. I know that she had to have the road sanded because it turned into a sheet of ice with the freezing rain on Friday evening, but that just means that she had more home time to do things properly.

I went from a weekend anniversary vacation to another cold snap and more work. We got home about 5:30pm and I worked for the next 5-6 hours. Some of that was unpacking, but most of it was just ... everything else. I finally got the boiler up to temperature around 11:25pm. Now I am going to bed and snuggling with my cats.
