It felt strange to wake up in a new world.
Yesterday morning, the Prime Minister of Australia was John Howard and by the end of last night, Kevin Rudd became the 26th Prime Minister of Australia.
In the second time I was allowed to vote in a Federal election, I feel more doubt and more scared. Maybe for selfish reasons or perhaps the people in the country. Who knows how my mind operates.
I am happy that Rudd won though but sad that Howard had pretty much lost his own seat of Bennelong only because of how humiliating it must be - last PM to do so was in 1929. I'm not a fan of Maxine McKew - not sure why but hate the "celebrity" factor of politics this time round tho - I guess it worked for Ronald Reagan. And I guess the Chasers popularity helps also. Next "celebrity" candidate is going to be David Koch - bets anyone?
Still going hard at the gym for a least 4 days a week but with overtime or other events on Saturdays makes it harder to push that extra day so I am considering Sundays instead. And there is the extra motivation with doing a class with Monique and doing some cardio afterwards with Rhys since he ended up joining up the same gym. I'm getting better at pump - I am slowly adding more weights. I hope it's all kinda paying off a bit.
The reveal of my dislike of stereotypical animals that pre-teen/adolescent females adore (dolphins and horses) starting from te random "I love horses" song found on a kids' magazine subscription and the dance remix of the song led to my inbox being bombarded with weird pictures of horses. I still don't "love horses".
FRIDAY
- Work: the big move as half our team is stupidly moved downstairs so some other team from Ryde can come in. At least I'm not on Level 10!!!
- Attempts to meet Chris Lilley from "Summer Heights High" during our lunch break was foiled by the huge queue to meet the guy at QVB's ABC shop. So Monique, Rhys and I had lunch at Wagamama.
- Steven's farewell: nice work affair starting off at the Burdekin Hotel on Oxford Street with a bunch of work people. Yay for the happy hour of $3 beers and 2 for 1 cocktails. Dinner at Oportos led us to the Colombian Hotel where things really went off (good and the embarrassing). Lot of dancing and jagerbombs from memory. Then we went off to Stonewall for a while and then I went home. All in all - great night and great memories (I think) in seeing Steve off!!
SATURDAY
- Andrew & Marina's wedding. Belinda brought me along and it was a really extravagent Croatian affair. We started off at a Croatian church. There were readings and traditional lighting of the candle of the mothers of both families and then by the couple.
- We had a 4 hour gap hanging around Liverpool Westfield with Belinda eating lunch and buying random things - the unfortunate outcome of being paid during the week and killing a lot of time in a shopping centre.
- Reception was held at a Croatian club. There were 30+ tables of 8, open bar of whatever you wanted and each table had its own bottle of spirits (vodka, whiskey or bourbon). They introduced the wedding party with different rock songs with the best man (who is a stripper) and maid of honour coming in to the song that he strips to. We wore brooches of rosemary tied with a ribbon in Croatian flag colours (I later found out it was a tradition meaning fertility). There was a lot of traditional music and dances. Bride and groom's first dance was with a smoke machine so it looked like they were dancing on clouds - all about the little touches.
SUNDAY
- Took my brother out for lunch at the Coolibah Bistro as he wanted pub food for lunch on his birthday then later in the evening, whole family went to the Hog's Breath Cafe for dinner.
MONDAY
- Work
- Body Attack class followed by bike rematch with Rhys.
- Mx printed the random message that Rhys and I concocted on the train on Thursday stating under the heading "Passed": To the gangster guy with the white beret who gets on at Lidcombe, you pass my fairness test. - VJ, Rooty Hill. VJ wants our necks - Hulusi however is very proud!
TUESDAY
- Work
- Body pump class
WEDNESDAY
- Work
- Body pump class
THURSDAY
- Random cardio with Rhys
- Dinner and coffee at Mars Hill Cafe with Rhys and Rochelle. We played as old school youth edition of Trivial Pursuit. When I left, I was winning - yay!
FRIDAY
- Work
- Pizza Hut Works for lunch with Ramona, Monique and Rhys - yum pizza...
- Burdekin Hotel for after work drinks - no crazies on my behalf or Rhys as we left early for other commitments. Probably many more things for Monique, Yaka, Ramona, Chris and Hulusi to answer for. Maybe especially Hulusi as before we left, the boys bought him a box of "Wipe on Sex Appeal" for the gents and attacked him with the stuff - yeah, pheromones smell like pine air freshener apparently.
- Picked up Belinda and had a Thai dinner at Wetherill Park followed by the movie "Gabriel" - not bad for an Aussie budget flick. Very artistic shots.
SATURDAY
- Overtime at work. Tried to get in early to put in my absent vote. Got there late so jumped straight into work instead. The days we do OT is so different cos management isn't around and also there is so much testosterone about in cramped level 10 that boys like to misbehave like Chris switching the configuration of my mouse buttons when I ducked out to answer my phone and Hulusi stripping a whiteboard duster and doing odd things with it - Yes, weekend work is like high school all over again! I got to scream at them all and attack - yes to workplace abuse. I had a fantastic photo of Rhys laced up in my corset only that it was unfortunately deleted by Rhys when I distracted by arguing with Chris.
- I got an random email from someone going, "Oh so you're Debbie Y..." Made me wonder who is Jeremy cos I had to write correspondence to the guy earlier in the week. Turns out he was this guy from the Ryde team who thought was told I was an APS 6 and not to fuck around with me - hahaha nice! Though after meeting me, the rumour is dispersed.
- I did my absent vote at Town Hall in the morning - damn disguise of Lib and Lab booths saying absentee enquiries. The dude at the Liberal booth was laughing at me cos I was wearing my "Chaser 07" tee at the time. I trust those wearing AEC t-shirts. So my vote was quick and easy compared to the poor sods waiting in the Sydney electorate line - IN THE RAIN!!!
- Lunch at Strattons Hotel - after 2 bad experiences, I don't think I would go there for food again!
- I had 30 minutes to kill after work and Rhys had to wait for Rochelle led to drinks at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel and playing 5 rounds of a Buck hunting video game. Sensing a common theme for me anyone?
- Met up with Chris and headed to Genghis Khan for Anna and Belinda's birthday. Love Genghis Khan for their all you can eat noodles and salad bar. And we got little plastic skull rings to wear and loot bags!
- Drinks at James Squire drinking fruity beers - go the golden ale and highwayman! Played some games like HP trivia and writing a potion - I'm no good at this stuff. Almost choked on a giant sour bubblegum egg and lost in arm wrestling. I spend
- Was taken by surprise by Rhys who was there with rest of Rochelle's work Christmas party. So we hung out a bit - was considering another buck shoot out cos they had the same machine there.
Didn't get to much today. Too sleepy to head to the Sin City BBQ. Woke up and decided to head into the city instead and pick up my shoes that were on layby for work.
Came home to watch teen movies. Brother was at some BBQ thrown by the local member who got re-elected in his seat. I was thinking out loud to my parents that I wouldn't mind asking this guy some questions about WorkChoices and mum took this as a sign that I wanted to meet and greet the guy and made me go. But it was the end of the BBQ and they were packing up the campaign posters etc. So I left and came home and so here I am watching the finale of Australian Idol.
