My Top Picks of Star Trek: TOS K/S [slash & gen] Fics + Bonus Mc/OMC
Quick caveat, I have a taste for long and romance heavy fics and pon farr fics. I also haven’t read everything out there, but of what I have read, these are ones I enjoyed so much I’ve read them more than once. And if I can reread it... well, that is my standard to decide to rec it.
Also, I like to think of this list as a WIP, I'll be adding to it as I read fic, though this list will stay TOS and not the new verse.
Kirk/Spock Recs; A Mix of Slash and Gen fics
I have noted that one of the side-effects of falling head over heels in love with the new 'verse is that when I reread my old faves I keep wanting to also read remixes of those fics that are based on AOS. *longs for it liek woah* Y/Y?

Kirk/Spock Recs; A Mix of Slash and Gen fics
- Slash - K/S:
- 01. This Deadly Innocence, or The End of the Hurt/Comfort Syndrome by Leslie Fish.
Why read? There's a sweet romance to this fic that doesn't fail to make me sigh in delight every single time I read it. And that read count is well into double digits by now, and has held up to a decade of love. From me. Still love it.
- 02. Wanting by Varoneeka; has a sequel titled Having
Why read? These pair of fics never fails to make me melt from the hot. Guh! Ever single time. *paws screen weakly*
- 03. Lost Sailor by Greywolf the Wanderer. Post Amok Time. Pretty much: Pon Farr comes back, Spock tries to run. It has a sequel is titled Ripple
- 04. Ponn Far Part 1 and Ponn Far Part 2 by Arachnethe2
- 05. I Leave This At Your Ear by Jane St. Clair.
Why read? I really like the idea of Spock being there for Kirk after the death of his brother.
- 06. Still Amok by Jane. Summary: Immediately after "Amok Time." Spock told McCoy and Kirk that "the madness" had passed, but his pon farr is not really over. It has a sequel called, Coals of Fire.
- 07. An Eerie Experience by Kira-nerys; Short but makes me grin at Spock. Link leads to the author's site as I could not get a direct link.
- 08. And in the Darkness Bind You by Greywolf the Wanderer. Operation: Annihalate Fic!
- 09. Turning Point by Killashandra which has a sequel titled, Full Circle , which should also be read.
- 10. Where the Dreams by T'Pat. Summary: Kirk has been avoiding Spock, causing the Vulcan and McCoy to worry. The doctor corners him and suggests he has a talk with Spock...
- 11. Terminus by Judith Gran. Summary: At the end of the five-year mission, Kirk and Spock find opposition within Starfleet to the idea of their serving together in starship command positions in the future. Nogura has his own plans for Kirk, and takes a dim view of Kirk's and Spock's relationship. But the lover's own different needs and desires are the greatest challenge of all. This story ties is perfectly with the end of the series and then into the movies but damn if it doesn't still hit like a sledhammer to the heart.
- 12. Fancy‘s Hot Fire by Jungle Kitty; Shore Leave fic. This is like THE shore leave fic in my mind.
- 13. What the Heart Remembers by Killa
- 14. No Brighter Moment by Killa; I really like the plottiness of this. Though, it does feel unfinished which makes me long for more.
- 15. Unintended by Cimorene. In which Kirk drives Spock crazy by breathing on his ears, poor Spock. Heh.
- 16. Only Logical by Cimorene. I really deeply enjoy this look into Kirk’s head.
- 17. Til Human Voices Wake Us by Jane St. Claire; Post Generations. Why read? It packs a solid emotional punch that nearly a decade after first reading it still lingers. If anything I'm often surprised that this isn't canon.
- 18. The Siren‘s Call by hafital. Why read? I love what was done with Kirk being essentially immortal from being in the Nexus. Freaking brilliant.
- 19. Business as Usual by JackHawksmoor; This is a fairly new fic, but I love it. It addresses how Jim would react to finding out that Spock made him forget Rayna. Also, accidental sex is for the win!
- 20. But Never Parted by Dread Nought. Summary: Starfleet splits up the boys.
- 21. Losing It by Dread Nought
Summary: A mission to a potential new Federation member planet is kinda rough on the captain.
- 22. On the Brink by Jenna Hilary Sinclair
Summary: Kirk has taken that first big step: he's asked Spock if he would be interested in an intimate relationship. But Spock's not even sure that he can react to his captain in a sexual manner. He needs some time to think about it.
- 23. The Mistletoe Challenge by Amanda Warrington
Summary: In his final year, Spock briefly meets Kirk at the Academy Winter Ball. One day, many years later, the man who made a lasting impression on Spock assumes command of the Enterprise.
Gen Fic - 24. Summer Camp by Syl. Why read? It's possibly my most reread pre-tos fic that I've ever come across. Plus, it's long and lovely and brilliant. Tarsus IV Fic!
- 25. Homerun Part 1 - The Heritage by Anna Amuse; Homerun Part 2 - The Split and Homerun Part 3 - The Finish Curve
- 26. Absolute Horizon by Anna Amuse; Awesome. I'm waiting for the sequel with eagerness.
- 27. Father to the Man by Frankie Jackson; For a while there I couldn’t find a link to this fic and then I did! \o/. It’s a pre-tos fic with young Kirk and young Spock, post Tarsus IV. Also, it made me go O.O when I realized that this fic fit the AOS-verse just a bit better than the TOS-verse.
- 28. Man of His Word by Istannor; This was another one of those I couldn’t find a link to for the longest time. Makes me sniffle even when I know how it will end. Summary: Diplomatic Privilege becomes the refuge for an Ambassador who murders. The Enterprise must solve the crisis caused by his cowardice.
Bonus Fic - McCoy/OMC - 29. The Trust of a Bonding by K.V. Wylie. Must be read because it is long and brilliant and has my absolute favorite portrayal of McCoy and Vulcans as a culture, ever. The ship from this story is pretty much the whole reason why I couldn’t read McCoy being paired with anyone else, [at least not before the ST XI movie] McCoy/V'Rhsal are my OTP, it even makes me wibble when I think that the new-verse, they can’t happen. *wibbles*
