OOC Question: Theorycrafting - Talents

So, I'm not sure what the level of interest in theorycrafting is for this community but I aim to find out today. That said, theorycrafting can sometimes turn into a debate and it goes without saying that everyone will remain friendly even if they disagree. Behave! >8[

I just recently had the mixed experience of playing alongside a paladin that liked ( Read more... )

My reasoning: muscle memory.

Thistle says HI THERE.

Thistle doesn't remember being a ranger, but it's muscle memory that came into play for him 'remembering' that he can shoot. I had a whole scene worked out, but unfortunately I never got to RP it out. He was in the AH, and though he's always nearly broke, he spotted an old bow for sale (second or third hand, not great quality even new). He picked it up and it felt right in his hand. He had no conscious memories of shooting, but his body knew what to do and it felt right to do it. He wasn't a marksman from the get-go, he had to learn the weapon and strengthen his muscles again, but he got there eventually.

More on-topic, I agree with both of you. I see no reason why a DK couldn't keep using some of the skills, within reason. Shooting, tracking, being more comfortable with one weapon and a shield? Peachy keen with me!

Long ago, when Haken was my main alt, I met a DK who had been a hunter when he was alive. As a DK, he raised dead animals to use as ghoul-animal pets, because that's what he remembered doing and he missed having one. (OOCly the character was rolled as a hunter so he could have the pets, he used the dead wolf skin one.)

On the other side of the coin, I have zero issues with having fewer abilities, too. I have an alt who is basically nothing. He was a really bad rogue, pretended to be a warrior (pre-Cata, so a claimed blood elf warrior was amusing), then he became a hunter and his pet bosses him around (she adopted him, thinks of him as her cub, so she's always knocking him down to groom him and dropping raw meat into his face and such).

So long comment short, basically I'm okay with a whole lot of stuff. In the hands of a good RPer, I'm even okay with things like secret dragons and other wacky ideas. Pair me up with a good RPer and I'd give them a lot of trust on out-there ideas. Unfortunately lots of WoW RPers aren't that good...
