Lucas proposes to her. Brooke says no.

This is something she is both proud of and hates.

This is progress. She is not doomed to repeat her mistakes.

Peyton doesn't visit New York once.

the perfectly long/short sentences and the rhythm and her fears, and peyton doesn't visit, and of course brooke says no and just guh :(

Brooke spends most of her free time in her room, reading books that are written by people she never fell in love with.

She’s sleeping in Lucas’ old shirt. That, she doesn’t tell Peyton.

Brooke smokes now, sometimes.

of course she does. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I SHIPPED BROOKE/SMOKING UNTIL NOW.

His voice is heavy, thick with booze, and even now Lucas’ drink, whiskey neat, pops into Brooke’s head without notice.

oh this is just gorgeous imagery.

Lucas says that like it doesn’t mean anything to him, like it won’t matter to her. Brooke is alone in New York and Lucas is not with Peyton and this is not what she meant when she gave him up.

WHHHHHY, why is this so beautiful?

She doesn’t give enough of herself for him to take. Growing up has its advantages.

OH, BEAUTIFUL. she grows up or old or both and sure maybe it's an advantage but maybe it's all just worse than before.

There's a half empty pack of Marlboros in her nightstand still, though.

THANK YOU! Brooke has, and always will be, the definitive One Tree Hill character for me. I think she's so interesting and selfish and beautiful and still crazy in love with Lucas in a lot of ways, even when she settles down with Julian.

She just kind of hits all the places on my character bingo card .
