Motivated again!

I decided yesterday that I needed to find a new running partner. Once school starts back up Kim and I won't be able to run together and we don't really have the same goals in mind. I didn't know how to find one -- thought about posting something in the laundry room here at the apartments or posting an ad on Craigslist (want ads). I was worried Craigslist would turn up some weirdo though.

I started looking around Craigslist list and found a lady in Simpsonville looking for a running partner. She's "pre-training" for a marathon at Myrtle Beach in February and will officially start training in October. She said she has young children and that makes scheduling runs difficult/interesting. I figured "what the hell" and emailed her asking what level she was at and what "pre-training" meant. I also told her that I'm a teacher and probably couldn't run until 6 or 7 at night thus the need for a partner.

I didn't intend to run a marathon next year, but figured training with someone for one couldn't hurt anything. She's running a 12-14 minute mile (like me) and the book she's using wants you to be able to run 30 solid minutes before actually starting to train for the marathon. She's using the Non-Runner's Handbook which isn't much different than the Jeff Galloway books I've been using. We're meeting tomorrow night.

I'm trying to get into a routine for work so I got up and fed the dog this morning then went and ran on the treadmill. I've been doing a 12 minute run so that was all I set out to do this morning...12 minutes came and I decide to keep going. I ended up running for 20 solid minutes!!!! That's a first ever! Go me!
