They share everything from bowls of ramen to tubs of ice cream, bus rides to train rides, umbrellas under the sudden summer showers, kisses under the rain when neither of them remember to bring umbrellas. She asks him to leave clothes in her apartment when he is practically sleeping over every night anyway, then leaves him with almost nothing to wear because she wears his shirts to sleep in.
It's almost unbearably hot one afternoon that she feels like kicking him off her futon, but her rented apartment is so small that there'd be nowhere for him to go. Scoffing at his suggestion that they take a shower together, they lie in bed, talking about everything and nothing and Yuuji humming made-up songs of how her skin feels under his fingers that has Sachiko giggling under him. She swats at his exploring digits half-heartedly, until he leans down to press a kiss on her collarbone, tongue darting out to taste her skin and she thinks she forgets to breathe.
She's a nurse; she's studying to be a nurse, she really should have known better. He whispers, I love you, Sachi, just before he leans over her completely and rolls her on her back, and Sachiko closes her eyes and thinks that it doesn't really matter.
Needless to say, she gets pregnant.

She cries buckets and throws her nursing books at the walls and eats nothing but ice cream and refuses to go out unless it's to attend classes, which she still gets high marks for despite not studying like she usually did. She doesn't tell anyone; she couldn't tell anyone without feeling like a complete failure in life and/or wanting to castrate Yuuji by hand.
Yuuji himself goes suddenly missing in action after she tells him of their successful but unexpected procreation. Sachiko thinks it's better that way, because seeing him would make her murder him and/or burst into more tears than she already does. So she wipes at her eyes, picks her books back up, eats more ice cream and stays cooped in.
She wakes up one evening to the sound of a guitar strumming and his voice asking her in a song to marry him. Sachiko throws open her window with every intention of throwing down something at him--she didn't know what, exactly, as she needed all her pairs of shoes, and her books didn't come cheap, either--but he's grinning up at her in that same impish, sheepish way that made her fall for him for the first time, and she laughs until she cries. Again.
(Yes, she tells him much later, after he'd come up to her door and she refused to let him in and he was forced to spend the night on her doormat with his guitar for a pillow. I'll marry you, Yuu-chan.)

Needless to say, their families did not approve.

Eight years later, she lies on an operating table with her feet propped up and told by nurses to push, push, push, Sachiko-san! and she's cursing Yuuji under her breath for being too chicken to be in the delivery room with her to hold her hand. It's his name she screams out in pain because no, she did not need an epidural, thank you (she'd gone without it both times when giving birth to Masaru and then Mako), but the pain is well worth it when, much later, she sees the expression on his face as he takes in the sight of not one, but two new additions to their family.
Needless to say, looking back on everything, she regrets absolutely nothing.
