He doesn't want to break it to her that he doesn't have a blu-ray DVD player.
--
She asks him about it. Not every day, not every time she sees him, but enough to make him uncomfortable. "Sorry," Shige says. "Haven't had time." Which is true to an extent--he could always fit in time for a movie or two.
"Understandable," Shihori chirps, but then launches into why he should start with one movie over the others. Shige listens, nodding along.
After Shihori leaves, Alisa takes her seat. "You should probably tell her."
Shige stares at her and hesitantly asks, "Tell her what?"
Alisa rolls her eyes. "Ne, Kato-kun, do you really think I believe you right now?"
"No," Shige says after a beat. Alisa laughs, leans over and pats him on the shoulder.
"I'm sure Shihori-chan won't mind."
"How did you even figure?"
Alisa shrugs. "I'm good at guessing certain things. Just a personal skill." She beams, and Shige wonders just how far this skill extends. "Very far," Alisa says right after the thought--which makes Shige widen. "I did say," she sing-songs as she gets up. "Now tell Shihori-chan that you don't have a blu-ray player, and you won't have to worry anymore."
"Okay," Shige says--mainly because it's not like he'd say no. Alisa smiles at him, and Shige half-thinks she's about to lean over and pet him on the head. Except she doesn't, just walks away, humming.
--
Shihori laughs when he tells her. "Kato-kun, you should've said that from the start!"
"I couldn't!" Shige insists, his hands shoved into his pockets. Shihori is still laughing, to his annoyance. "You looked--" he pauses which causes Shihori to stop and quirk an eyebrow upwards.
"I looked, what, Kato-kun?" Shihori asks, hands on her hips.
"Just excited," Shige mumbles. "I mean, you gave me movies you liked so I didn't want to disappoint."
"Kato-kun, it's a blu-ray player, not--" she pauses. "Well, whatever it is, it's nothing big. I'll even take you to get one!"
Shige blinks. "What?"
Shihori grins. "Yeah! We can make a day of it. I'll show you what players are good, and then we can have lunch, and maybe even get to your apartment in time to set-up the player and watch a movie!"
Shige still stares. Can't really find the words in his throat (or brain for that matter) and watches helplessly as Shihori flips open her cell phone and seemingly goes through her schedule. "Our next off day is on Monday. What about it, Kato-kun?"
"Sure?" Shige croaks.
"Great!"
Shige's not sure how long he stands there, staring blankly at the wall Shihori had been standing in front of. Except Alisa is hitting her hip against his and he acts on solely instinct to keep him upright.
"A date, huh?" The expression on Alisa's face makes Shige swallow hard.
"No," he says--although his heartbeat doesn't agree with how furiously it's beating.
Alisa laughs. "Would you like it to be?"
He must hesitate a bit too long because Alisa's laugh gets louder and covers his insistent "No, it's not."
"Right. I hope you enjoy your day off!" She walks away with a wave.
Shige combs a hand through his hair. Well, damn.

Shihori smiles, cries, laughs, sobs all in the span of one movie. Shige finds himself more focused on the female beside him than the actual movie (which he will eventually watch in full because if it prompted that range of emotions, it must be good). "Oh," Shihori sighs, wiping away a tear when the credits start to roll. "Wasn't that amazing?"
Shige stares, has been staring--and he's not sure how she hasn't realized--and nods. "Yeah. It was good."
Shihori raises an eyebrow at him. "Just good?"
"Really good?" Shige manages.
"Kato-kun," Shihori laughs. "We went through all that trouble at the store--"
"Nobody would properly help us!"
"Maybe because you were asking the most ridiculous questions?"
"Important questions!" Shige huffs. He resists from crossing his arms.
"Like fast-forward options? You know, they usually have them."
"But how fast?" Shihori rolls her eyes and crosses her arms which only makes Shige laughs. "Okay, so that might've been pushing it."
"Uh-huh. And then lunch when you took forever to choose? I swore by this time, we'd still be there because you wouldn't have chosen anything." Shige gives her a sheepish smile, but doesn't tell her that the real reason it'd taken him forever was because she kept chatting away and by the time he'd realized, the waiter had come and gone at least three times.
"Really, you're just about the worst date ever," Shihori says it so easily that Shige almost misses it.
"What?"
Shihori rolls her eyes again. "Kato-kun, I wouldn't have spent an entire day with you just for the heck of it. I mean, you're interesting in general, but most people would keep that to the work place. I, on the other hand, was interested in you outside of work. So obviously--"
"Obviously?" Shige echoes.
"Obviously, there's something more."
Shige blinks. Shihori smiles. When Shige leans over to press his lips against her, her arms uncross and her hands tug on the front of his shirt. He pulls back and watches as her eyes slowly open. "Kato-kun," she breathes. Shige thinks he wants to hear her say his name like that over and over again. "If that's how you kiss, I may have to rethink this."
Shige stares before he quickly kisses her, pulls back and then attacking her sides to find out if she's ticklish.
Turns out she was. Shihori's laughter echoes in his ears for days.

Omake
"So?" Alisa asks, the next time she sees him.
Shige raises an eyebrow. "So?" he repeats.
She rolls her eyes at him. "How was the date with Shihori-chan?"
The words "not a date" fall out of his lips more out of habit than anything else. Alisa laughs. "Really? Then why are you suddenly red?" Shige's hands fly to his cheeks--he doesn't feel the usual heat that comes with blushing. She smirks at him. "Or not," Alisa says.
"Stop picking on Kato-kun," Shihori says from behind them. Shige turns to see Shihori walking towards them, her usual smile on her face. "You know he's delicate."
"Aww, but oh so adorable," Alisa says, mussing up his hair. Shihori giggles before joining in.
Shige sighs and wonders how much filming is left for the season. The hair stylist sees him later and scolds him for not taking care of his hairstyle. It takes her twice as long to fix it--Shige's sure she does that on purpose.
(Later, Shihori makes it up to him when she helps him pass the time in his dressing room.)
