It arrived two days ago. A year and a half after it reached and exceeded its goal.
For my $50 pledge I am pleased to find the book large, hardbound and in full-color. For an anthology at that price however I was hoping to be introduced to the best female creators in the comic book industry. I did discover new female graphic-novel professionals, but I had to wade through so much... amateur works. I mean, if I wanted to see crayon scribbles of little girls I'd just go to any preschool in my neighborhood; not pay $50 to see them published side by side with the pros.
I myself has participated in a comic book anthology before and even if that project may be on a smaller scale, I must say I feel much more proud to be part of
Siglo than if I were part of Womanthology. I am glad to see familiar works like Aimo's and Coelasquid's, but there were a few comics that are so hard to read I had to skip them entirely, which is a rare thing because I usually have a compulsion to read everything, down to ketchup labels.
When I first read about Womanthology I thought it would be a book proving to the comic book world that women are just as talented, capable and amazing professionals as the men. I now know it's just a book proving to the comic book world that any female artist can get published by getting dibs, regardless of skill.
In the end I'm just glad I got my copy :p but I'm afraid I'd be staying away from Kickstarter from now on.
