Oh my, oh my! Hahaha, I met Mr Loh again today! :D
As I walked out of Paragon listlessly to head home from a time of getting myself to study the whole afternoon, I thought that at night would just be round two of the wrestling match I just had with myself during my time at Starbucks.
However, that seemed to change with a familiar face caught my eye. There, he was. Sitting on his unfailing metal wheelchair, with his prostatic legs beside him, on the pavement at the junction of the traffic light. The emotions within me, changed. Compassion and excitement displaced the boredom and indifference that was growing within me. Soon, I found myself, beaming from ear to ear, like a tower over him as he sat. "Hello Mr Loh! How are you doing this evening?" I said as my presence caught him by surprised.
"Eh! It's you again," looking up from his collection of tissue packets that was nestled on his lap, in a thin cardboard box, "how are you today?"
"I'm fine, thank you," reaching for my wallet to hand him a dollar. "I came to bless you and buy tissue."
He shook his head in refusal, not taking the one dollar coin that I held in my hand, "no need, no need."
"It's okay! Just one dollar," I commented, pressing the tarnished two silver coins into his hands. I smiled reassuringly as I graciously took the three colourful packets of tissue from his old, gnarled and weathered hands.
There, the conversation began. I then enquired whether he had already eaten dinner, with my ready intentions of blessing him with three slices of Nutella bread which I kept in my backpack. However, he declined as he gestured that he had already taken his dinner at Toa Payoh- brown rice. As I thought about the two words, "brown rice", I knew for certain that it would definitely not be able to satisfy the hunger that he might have had. Nonetheless, I grinned at the fact that he had already eaten.
Not before long, it was time for me to go, with the traffic light turning green as a signal for my leave.
"Bye bye, Mr Loh! See you soon!" I exclaimed, skipping off, across the hubbub street.
"Why are you so kind?" He chuckled, saying "bye bye! See you next time," calling out. His voice soon became a distant muffle, as I strained my ears to hear his last few words.
I glanced over my shoulder and saw him looking out for me as I carefully crossed the road. I waved goodbye, hoping in my heart that I would be able to see him soon again.
