I went to see the movie on Friday, with
doublefourtime and I adored it. I have to go and see it again soon.
Two minutes in to the film I knew it was going to be amazing. Seeing Hermione actually Obliviate her parents and wipe herself from the photos was such a sad and lovely scene. I love that the films can do extra things that the books cant do, being from Harry's perspective. It really hit home how it wasn't only Harry who was suffering and how wonderful and strong Hermione is. Harry finding the toy soldiers he'd played with in the first movie, when he checked the cupboard was also a nice touch.
George getting his ear blasted off, and that whole sequence at the Burrow, how frantic Remus was, how worried the Weasley's were, was very moving. I loved Ron stopping Harry from leaving and grabbing his bag as soon as it hit the ground, to make sure he wouldn't leave.
When they first announced it, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of splitting the film, but now I realise there's no way they could have done it otherwise. The build up to Ron leaving and then Ron coming back, needed a little time. I'd forgotten, until I reread it last week, just how much happens in that book. It's not all camping. It's packed with important things and I'm glad they used it all properly and were fair to all the characters. I loved the scene where Harry asks Hermione to dance and it could be such a romantic scene, if done differently, such a will-they-won't-they set up, but then Harry is just a dork to make her laugh and you can tell she's still heartbroken and it just makes me happy that this film is about the three of them and their relationship and how they fit together.
The Tale of the Three Brothers, was actually my favourite scene in the whole movie. When she took the book out of her bag and started reading I was thinking "Oh my God, you're not just going to read it are you?" And then followed the most beautiful sequence they've ever had in the movies. It was gorgeous.
The Malfoys were incredible all the way through. Lucius and Narcissa looked harassed and terrified. The fact that he was so disheveled and that he hair was down - just tiny things really - made it all the better for me, who really wants justice done to the Malfoys in these films. They do save Harry a couple of times after all. The first time of course, being here where Draco doesn't give him away. I never thought it would be such a big thing in the film, but having them kneeling together, with Draco knowing it was Harry and Harry knowing Draco knew... ♥ Simple as that.
And then Dobby dying was such an awful, wonderful way at the end. I cried my eyes out. It was a beautiful death scene though. God knows how I'll get through the next one with all the people who end up dead in that.
Everyone in the cinema gave a collective groan of disappointment when it ended. I personally could have sat for another hour, but I think it was a good place to end, a good cliffhanger and it means that we get another amazing film next July.
No doubt I will have more comments after my second viewing.
