Any of these for starters. Sherlock Holmes Fic. It's book canon not film cannon, but it's not hard to imagine it all fitting together. I can imagine RDJ and Jude just perfectly. :D
Is it bad that when watching Sherlock Holmes, I couldn't help imagining Sherlock as more of an alt universe Batman/Iron man crossover than being Sherlock himself?
Seriously! I enjoyed the film, but take Iron man's self destructive tendencies, (The fact that IM was played by RDJ) and IM's way with the ladies crossed with Bat's detective ability, fighting prowess and willingness to take on a sidekick, and bam, Sherlock from the film.
Admittedly, I don't know much about classic Sherlock, I'd seen some TV shows when I was a kid though, so thats the impression I had as a kid, Sherlock seemed much more of an unbearable bore (quite glad they didn't make it like THAT though!)
Yes it is. :D I get your point about self destructive tendencies, but Sherlock Holmes was always a drug addict and kind of crazy in a brilliant way. I know everyone keeps going on about how different it is, but I think it has the spirit of the books. He was a fighter, he knew martial arts, just because it's a bit different to what there was before doesn't mean it's really wrong, you know? I dunno, I didn't feel like it was comic booky at all. And I didn't really feel like Watson was a sidekick either. It's more a partnership than any of the previous adaptations.
You will. OMG best thing ever ever ever (possibly, within reason).
As I said, it only seemed further from my (addmittedly narrow) previous exposure to Sherlock. And those points certainly did not make for a bad film, I very much enjoyed it. I thought it was comic booky, but not comic book movie, all costumes and what not, more real modern comic books, and that's a compliment in my book, I like comic books, and they certainly aren't all men in tights beating each other up. As for the sidekick, the modern, well written books don't have "sidekicks" as such in the way Robin once was to Batman, the dichotomy has changed, and even Robin is very much a partner, not a tag along, but whilst the dynamic has changed, in the medium in which I am most familiar, the term has not, and so I used the term, but definately did not see Watson as the traditional "holey smokes, Batman" type of side kick.
I'd watch it again, but not at the cinema, but then again, I rarely do. Cinema's too expensive and I like to leave it some time before a second viewing, it's a rare film that I want to pay to see twice.
